Just curious if any one knows much about Unit 41,42, and 421. I'm hunting the 3rd season and have never hunted these units. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you get a land owner map that shows all the private and BLM and NF land you will need it. The area north of rifle, CO. is good but there is alot of private.

Good Luck.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-09 AT 06:23PM (MST)[p]Those units are actually south of Rifle but Jake is right, it is a great 3rd season hunt. I live here locally and have hunted it quite a bit. The biggest mistake people make is going up too high. By 3rd season most of the deer are down in the junipers, sage and oak brush. Im not gonna give you too much info but like Jake said get a good map and hunt the small pieces of blm that other people overlook. Anywhere around Silt and Rifle should be good. Lots of oil field though so prepare for that. The National Forest gets pounded so steer clear of there. Dont expect to kill a monster but there are a still a few running around if you work at it.

LOL he's right south of rifle, had a bit of a brain fart there, thanks for the correction.

Thanks for the info. Where would you get a map that actually shows private, blm, and forest? It would be nice if someone made a map like that in Utah that was accurate, sure would save a lot of headaches for hunters and run ins with land owners since not everything gets posted like it should.

If your coming from Utah stop in Grand Junction at Sportsmans Warehouse and get a BLM map and a Usgs Quad map of the area. The USGS will not show ownership but will show the terrain in much greater detail at a closer scale and they show sections which helps pinpoint your location or a boundary line if you use the two maps together. There is also a new BLM office in Silt you should be able to get a map there. Dont forget Google earth its a great scouting tool also.

The 4 inches of snow we had overnight in 41 will help 3rd season hunters a bunch. I'm sure it is more up higher.
