So. Utah Buck

This year I didn't have time to do the dedicated hunter. It was a little tough watching my brothers shoot nice deer with a bow and a muzzleloader. When it was my turn, I knew there was some good bucks down there, we have them on a trail cam. I spent the first day in other areas I had previously had success in. I found lots of deer and passed up a few 4's, I only had two days down there to hunt thanks to work, family and school obligations. The next morning I went to a place I knew held some good bucks during the archery hunt, with the mild meather I thought they would still be there. After a few miles of hiking and glassing we still had yet to see a deer, I was starting to worry they had moved out of there. A little discouraged we headed back down the long way to see some new country. We had been walking through some thick trees where I knew if we jumped something a shot would have to be quick. After about twenty times of telling my little brother to walk behind me so I didnt have to shoot through him at a deer he finally calmed down enough to slow down. About 5 minutes later I heard the unmistakable foot steps of deer. I saw two good bucks moving through the trees about 125 yds in front of me. Instantly I turned my scope down and found the lead one in my cross hairs, I knew he was a respectable buck. I had only a split second to decide if I was going to wait and get a look at the second or take the first buck. His ears went back as he stopped and I knew I only had about 2 seconds before they blew out of there. That was it. The 7mm ultra spoke and it was over.

I never saw anything but the tips of the second buck. Im sure he was a good one too but I will save him for next year. He measures a little over 27. Not a giant, but good for only two days to hunt. Now only 11 months till I can do it again.

You know the sad thing, this is the first time I have seen your son. Man, im a bad friend! If you can even call me one. :)

Ya well maybe we can talk our wifes into watching the boys together so we are not leaving them "alone". That way we can get out and do some hunting- Thanks buddy
