I have been married almost two years and before my wife and I got married it was a must that she get her hunter saftey license so we could hunt. She did and her first morning hunting we spotted a big one but couldnt get any closer than 500 yards. The size of this buck got her so excited it lasted clear to the next season. The buck last year gave us the slip. So this year after the dust settled from the bow and muzzy hunt i went back to the honey hole. I found a buck in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing. So i took my wife back to the area the day before the opener and she spotted him on the slope, and so we put him to bed. The next morning we started a 3:30 and walked down the mountain side with flash lights and when the sun came up we found him 200 yards from where we put him to bed. The only bad thing was he was 516 yards away from us. She said she wanted to get closer, and so we tried. We got within 395 yards and he disapeared. I thought it was a repeat of last year. Then he popped out below us on the other side of this drainage. I ranged him at 409 and told her to aim right between his antlers. She had a dead rest and was totally calm. When he presented the shot i told her to take him and that she did. The 257 Weatherby Mag spoke and smacked the deer. She hit him perfect, she broke his back and he did what he could to get out of sight. I was screaming and yelling with excitement. My brother was spotting for us and he called us over cause he could see the buck tumbling and laying in the drainage, we couldnt. So we walked back to him and celebrated. We let the buck sit for an hour and then decended staight down. When we arrived we were all so pumped and i couldnt believe my wife made that shot. It was perfect. She has now killed two deer with two shots. This by far is my greatest hunting memory yet, better than killing my trophy. All year she thought about the buck last year that gave us the slip now her mind could rest. Only bad thing is she wants to do this every year, I just hope I can find them for her. Its only going to get tougher with the deer herd dropping like it is. Thanks to my bro for helping us pack him out and spotting for us. Good job babe, great shot.
