My Bookcliff's Buck

Ok, so I've finally decided to break down and post a pic of my Bookcliff's buck. We hunted hard, burnt off a lot of leather from the bottom of the boots and put a lot of miles on the truck. It was tough trying to locate the deer. It was great to hunt with my Dad, brothers, and best friend. That was by far the best part! We finally found this buck coming down from the country tailing a doe to the low land. It took me a long time studying him trying to decide. I had several chances at him but kept passing. My brother was dying... It was fun listening to him. This buck had me fooled. I knew he had a huge body, and a big ol pig head, but his antlers just looked small. I had him a 25" wide tops. Putting all the factors together and I knew he was a soild 180" type deer. I decided to take him. Once I had him on the ground I swore he got smaller. I got up to him, and thought I had made a major mistake until we got the tape on him. He is 27" wide outside, and has 25" ears. Which really surprised me. I knew he had a big body, and a big head, but not that big. I had a biologist at the check point check him out. He gussed him to be 8-9 years old.
Anyway, here's my Bookcliff's dink... Again, he's 27" wide, and greens 181 and change. I wanted, hoped for, and expected bigger. But it was a tough hunt. We didn't see a lot of deer at all compared to past hunts I've been on out there. Overall numbers, bucks, and quality was down. I'm sure the weather played a factor too.
Thanks for looking!

Here's a couple of stills I took off of my video when I shot him. Pretty cool. How about that shot placement? ;-)

Awesome buck! One of the best I have seen this year from the Books. Congratulations on getting him. It is easy to misjudge those bucks out there. 180 bucks are tough to find out there. Great job. Cool pics too!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-26-09 AT 10:30PM (MST)[p]Great buck from an area that doesn't seem to be producing like it should.

Great buck congrats man. The lion and the bear was cool too. I have only seen lions in the headlights or with dogs, Never have just happened into one.

Awesome buck and pics! Man your story about ear width sounds familiar. I had the same thing happen in 2007. Some of the those book cliffs bucks have huge ears and can be deceiving.

Congrats Jeff,
Just one question you didn't get your truck stuck trying to get him out did you?J/K
Remember that night in Nevada?I will never forget that day.Ha
That's a good looking buck good job.

LOL, Thanks for bringing that up Monte! I did my best to avoid the unseen swamps this time!

Thanks for all the comments guys! It was quite the hunt for sure. I came down with some virus they call H1N1 while we were out there hunting. It sucked bad. Put me flat on my back for the second day of the hunt. And really had me dragging for the rest. I'm still trying to recoupe.

It's not everyday you get to see a lion and a bear on the same trip. Thanks again all, I'm glad to know I didn't make a mistake!

For a sick man, you Hung a good one. that a great looking buck.

That's a great buck! Too bad you couldn't have a bear tag too, looks like a pretty bear.
