My 09 Rifle Buck

Well I have never Rifle hunted for deer before. We have always archery hunted and love every minute of it. This year my wife and I decided that the dedicated hunter is the way to go. Found a freak buck on the archery openers but wasn't able to make it happen. Went out on the muzzleloader and got my wife a great 2x3 but wasn't able to drum up another buck. Then the rifle came around and with the hunt only being a five day hunt I knew i had to hit it hard. Nothing but does and fawns turned up all day Wednesday and half of Thursday Then Thursday late afternoon this buck peeked out from behind a small pine and let me have a crack at him. I'm shooting a Winchester Mod 70 in 300WSM. I hand load 210gr Berger VLD's and they are one heck of a bullet. Spent my entire spring and summer shooting my rifle getting prepared out to a 1000yds. Figured I would be ready for all situations that came along. I killed my Elk this year at 125 yards and this buck was only 75 yards but at least I was ready for long shots. Well I am very grateful for my for all the luck that my family has been blessed with. Hope you all had a much fun as we did.

Congratulations on a great buck.
How did that Berger perform at that close range? I'm in the process of building a custom 7 mm mag and I'm looking at having my reamer set for the 168 vld.

Nice buck, great job connecting on that one and congrats to your wife as well.

Would you mind telling me what kind of scope you have on your rifle?

They did great. Pencil size entrance and about a 3.5" - 4" exit. We have been loading the 168VLD in my buddies 7MM mag. Awesome bullet. I also load the 168VLD in my wifes .280 Rem Im sold on the Bergers myself. High BC's and perform exactly how the say. Late expansion reaction. Its like putting a bomb in the vital area!

Thanks for the kind words. The scope is Nikon monarch 4x16x50mm 1" tube and 1/4 MOA click adjustments with the side focus. I had to put a 25 MOA tapered base on my rifle to get out past a 1000 Yards but it is a very clear scope. I am a big Nikon fan though. I use the Nikon monarch 1200 rangefinder and it works great as well.
Thanks

Wow 210gr???!!!! Out of a 300WSM??? For deer??? Geez I'm surprised you didn't peek over your scope to see nothing but pieces after the shot! I pump the 168 VLD's out of my .300WSM for elk, works great.

Anyhow, very nice buck, congrats!
