Last day of the Vernon hunt found this loner. Hunted all 9 days of the hunt and this one was about the biggest we found. Did alot of hiking found some smaller 3x4s in the way backs, ended up dragging this one about 75 yards. That should count for something. Measured to 26.

Well done, I was there 9 days also, I was pretty disappointed on the hunt. You got what I could never find. What was your overall opinion of this unit. I would really like to know thank's.

Good Job! Thats an awesome buck! Nice to see some guys actually enjoying their LE hunts.

My brother had a tag for this hunt also and didn't harvest a buck. Back in 2002 we both shot small 3x4's and, in 2002 we did see some very nice buck and had chances at those nice buck. 2009 hunt was not as good as the 2002. We didn't see anything bigger than the one I got, we did see probably 20 or 25 smaller buck. I'm not sure that the Vernon area should be a limited entry hunt and this could be from all the poaching that has been done the last few years. There has been a few nice bucks shot in the Vernon area that has been posted on this site, but overall I don't think the genetics on these bucks are what they once were. Saw a lot of 3x4 and some very narrow 4 points even a 1x2 still in the velvet. I'm not sure I will continue to put in for this hunt, unless things improve.

Look on the DWR web site and see how many archery, muzzleloader, rifle tags they give out for the vernon unit, compared to 5 years ago. Plus land owner tags and conservation tags.(FYI) Also, I was told by the DWR they plan to up the number of tags in this unit for 2010. This suprises me after the poaching incident down there. Some thing to keep in mind when applying for the big game draw.
