THIS BUCK WAS POACHED OUT OF SEASON NEAR FARMINGTON N.M., THE HORNS WERE RECOVERED...... HE IS 37 1/2 WIDE & 9X11 POINTS

Thanks to an OGT tip, Officer Brad Ryan was tipped off to the person that poached this trophy buck out of season. Officer Ryan investigated the case that actually was initiated over 1 year ago. Thanks to the sketch by a deer enthusiast and a concerned tipster, Officer Ryan was able to unravel this case and retrieve this illegally taken magnificent trophy.

On December 29, 2004, Reggie Bell plead guilty to illegal killing, possession and unlawful transport of game. Bell was initially fined $1,500.00 plus court costs (instead will serve 323 hours of community service), voluntarily agreed to forfeit the 7 MM Savage rifle the buck was killed with and assessed a civil damage of $250.00 for the civil loss of the deer to the state.

Fortunately a cape was found and the buck was mounted, it now hangs in the NEW MEXICO GAME & FISH OFFICE in ALBUQUERQUE N.M.

What an AWESOME buck, that is not how such an animal should be killed. It frustrates me that there are egotistical idiots out there that have to poach an animal to fulfill there lack of....... The other thing that bothers me is the punishment does not fit the crime, not just in this case but in almost all states there is not enough teeth in the penalty for poaching IMO. 323 days of community service is BS he should do a few years in PRISON, okay at least he should have to do the time INSIDE A JAIL not out picking up trash. I'm sorry to go off but I can't stand poaching or anyone who cannot respect the animals they are hunting or anyone who cannot take a animal ethicaly (sp?) If you don't respect the animals, the sport or the great outdoors then you should not be hunting again this is my opinion and I'm not saying I'm right it's just how I was raised and how I'm raising my boys. Poaching is a serious issue and it hurts all of us, espically the youth. Until these states start putting some teeth in punishment things are not going to get better. It does not do any good to take away their license, they are poachers they don't care obviously they don't. They are out there hunting illegaly anyway. Take away there guns and any other gear used while commiting the crime, i.e. truck, quad, cell phone, binos etc. and most definately some time behind bars plus a healthy fine.

I apologize for venting but this is a sore spot with me.

Slide, not to get you even more worked up but the dude only has to work 323 HOURS of community service. I think 323 days would be good but... Like you said, they let them off too easy...

This buck was actually killed on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. It was actually closer to Aztec NM than it was Farmington. Some game wardens from the SU Rez had video of this deer. What's even crazier is this buck was the smaller of the 2 that ran together. The other one was around 40" and 260"+.

The buck was not killed on the Southern Ute, it was killed right at Cedar Hill. Half the bow hunters in the county were watching in waiting for the January bow hunt when it disappeared in December. It took over a year of investigation before they were able to get a break in the case.

i'll through a hundred down on northwest colorado. Any takers? Be interesting to see how many different places this buck was killed. Great deer though. thanks for sharing

"blaming guns for violence is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'donnell being fat."

Largo3 is right, it was killed at Cedar Hill. Just like he said half the people in the county were watching him. Besides if it was killed on the S.Ute why does the NMDGF have the head.
HUNT REZ....I mean Hunt_Jic is just stirrin the pot.

The deer was killed in Cottonwood Canyon. If either of you tards know where that is you know it spans from The reservation into New Mexico. The carcass was found on Ute. He had a big split ear. The only reason the NM officers have it is because he was confiscated by the NM game wardens after the idiots son blabbed his mouth and gotthe dad caught. Cottonwood Canyon ladies.... I was showed by a good buddy right were he was killed.

Great buck for sure....there is another toad of buck in the Abq G&F office mounted right next to that one. I remember the stories about this buck a couple years ago also. If I remember right, there was an article that stated the buck was killed in Unit 2A near Aztec. I think the other poached buck game from the Chama area.
