So I've been photographing and sharing pics of our hunts over the past few years. This year I wanted to try something a little different and video our deer hunt in Wyoming's region G. My first attempt ever video'n a hunt, and first attempt ever at editing. This is part 1 of 4. I'll hopefully try to post one a day (they take forever to upload). I hope you enjoy them. We sure had a ball making them. Let me know what you think!

For some reason at around 1:30 the audio lags about 5 seconds behind the video. The original isn't this way. It must be an upload or HuntClips conversion issue. Founder you have any advice?

HEY FORK......YOU JUST GAVE ME BOW FEVER....(ON THE VERGE OF BUYING MY FIRST BOW)......GREAT TRIP/VIDEO....THX....YD.

great video and a fantastic buck. Cant wait to see the other videos. Nothing beats a video from the high country. What spotter were you using?

I have the Vortex Skyline, before ED glass was available. I love that scope.

My buddy had a scope when we went in but didn't come out with it, you'll see why in part 3!

Still some very exciting things to come.

great video. takes me back 15 years ago when I would do backpack hunts like this. I love the high country. thanks, bring on part 2.

Awsome videos so far. Thats too bad about the buck we have all been there before. Cant wait to see the rest of it. Did you guys see many other people up there?

Love it so far. That country is simply amazing and ultimate mule deer country. I have some video footage and pics over the years that I have taken and would love to put something like that together. Guess I just need to make some time, Right!

Keep it coming...looking forward to the rest of the story to see if he redeems himself. That was too bad about not finding that buck.

great video guys, it's already got me jacked for next years early season.

Part 3 is coming shortly. Well, give me at least an hour and half, thats how long it takes to upload these suckers.

This one has a bit of a twist, something I've never dealt with in the woods before and hope never to again!

LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-09 AT 09:45PM (MST)[p]Yeah the Bears are no fun. Can't wait to see what else you got. Looks like the kids approve.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-09 AT 10:39PM (MST)[p]wow...I am impressed. Great video. Very talented to put that together!! Congrats on a successful hunt and a great memory bank with the video work. When do we get part 4??

Just watched all three back to back and loved it!! Beautiful country and no other hunters!!? I've always taken for granted that the bears will not ransack my camp, but you just made me a believer that it can happen to anyone. My food will be hung in a tree going forward. The best part is your sons looking the antlers over. The writings on the wall with the play toys the lads are packing around, they're going to be a chip off the ol' block. Hope to watch a video clip on your hunt each year. Thanks for sharing!!

Man that bear, let me tell ya. We lost a $350 tent and two $70 thermarests. On top of that, my buddy left his scope in his food bag that day. Guess the bear couldn't get the duffle open so he took it with him, spotting scope and all. We looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Wasn't an overly expensive scope, but still!

What freaked us out more than anything was that he chewed on our stinky socks and sweaty shirt. Really had no fear of human sent. We walked into our camp in pitch darkness and had no idea if we'd just barely bumped him off or what. Pretty uneasy time.

We had NO food, NO shelter. We wanted to just leave that night, but my buck was buried in a snow bank high above camp. We decided to stay the night and man what a LOOONGGGG night!

Good memories now, but at the time, yikes not so much.

Hardly wait for number four-for some reason Im still feeling sorry for him. Man - that flower display was fantastic! Beautiful country and nice story - lets see the 4th----

LAST EDITED ON Nov-11-09 AT 02:15PM (MST)[p]Where is Part #4? Forget what I just said, I just noticed the time you made these posts and understand now. Great videos so far although I could do without that music in the back ground, but that is my opinion.

Brian

Brian thanks for being the first to give a little critical feedback. I appreciate all opinions, good or bad.

I dig music, so its really loaded up with tunes. A non hunting friend of mine at work after seeing the video had the same opinion as you.

I've been having almost as much fun making these videos as I did out hunting. Certainly won't be the last. For a first timer, I'm sure there are all sort of areas to improve, so the feedback is welcome.

I already know I'm going to have to break down a get a decent software package. This was all done on the rinky dink free Microsoft video editing program.

2 and 3 were great. sorry bout the bears. I've never hung my food on pack trips but will now. BTW kids were awesome and I enjoy the music.

thanks

Fork,

I did not mind the Willie Nelson song at the beginning but after that I tried to listen to what you both were saying and music going at the same time, my old burned out ears can't decipher what is being said. I even get PO'd when I am around anyone talking and can't hear what is being said....sorry.

At my age and also Eelgrass' we have a right to beech when we can't hear...LOL

Brian

The videos are excellent, and like someone else said, much better than what's on tv. I personally like the music. Give's it some character. And I like the choice you've picked as well. I like the old western music. Reminds me of Eastmans TV before they changed it all up with the new music and Guy narrating all the time. Seems like it takes you back to your roots a little bit with the slow western music.

I'm actually going to do this same very thing with my upcoming hunt now. Won't have video, but I'm going to try and do something similiar with pictures and music. How did you get a hold of that old western music, who's it by, etc?

Thanks again for the posts and vidoes!

Well...here it is, Part 4 the finale! Pretty amazing for us still how everything kind of culminates and comes together for this last hunt.

I may post one final short encore outtake. We'll see.

Thoughts on the events of Part 4? Overall?

I would love to hear you feeback.

So with out further audieu...

Forkwest,

Congrats on a great Mule deer hunt!!! Very few times no matter where you hunt will both you and your partner tag out with a bow and arrow!!! Not only did both of you get it done on some great bucks you took the time to "stop and smell the roses!" That my brother is what bow hunting is all about! Your videos were great and I truely want to say Thanks for the ride! You my friend are a great example of what us hunters should always strive to be~

LAST EDITED ON Nov-11-09 AT 09:37PM (MST)[p]well said. That must have been the most rewarding feeling to find that buck. Thanks again for sharing
ps...I will send you footage of my next hunt and you can make a video out of it :)

The really did a great job. Very cool. That bear encounter would have freaked me out. Having the guard dogs had to make it a little easier to sleep the few hours that night. Nice bucks. Glad to see your buddy found his buck. Very nice first archery kill. Once again good job on the hunt, video, editing and music.

JR

Just watched part 4....Glad y'all found that buck ...Also I noticed the Tyvek....You guys must have used it for an imprint? great idea the stuff is durable...Did it work good?

That was AWESOME. Thanks for taking the time to share that with us. In 2000, I shot a buck on a LE hunt and after watching him drop in his tracks, was stunned when he got up and disappeared. We searched buy never found him and it was such a sick feeling to loose an animal. I can imagine his elation when you guys found his buck. Very cool.

Yelum

That was excellent! You did an awesome job of telling the story of an unforgettable hunt. Congratulations to both of you on your bucks.

By the way, I loved the music.

Tyvek worked great. Very light weight and waterproof. I've used it for a ground cover and even used it as a make shift bivy sack in a pouring rain storm. Worked very well. Noisy though!

Search youtube. About every song imaginable. The pack trip in was the theme to The Magnificent Seven. Outside of the pop music there was alot of movie soundtracks.

Great job on the video. I know there is a ton of work that goes on behnind the scenes so thanks for taking the time to share it. Takes some extra effort in the field as well.

Love your enthusiasm for the sport of archery. Congrats on some awesome bucks as well.

Great job guys! There is something special about that first archery buck. Loved every second of the videos, thanks for taking the time to share it with all of us!

I think the bear that hit your camp and took your used socks and t-shirt was probably trying to get the salt out of it. Maybe it was experiencing a mineral deficiency. That is sure weird about that spotting scope disappearing though.

JR

I've got another short 60 second clip. I think ya'll may get a kick out of it. I'll try and post it up later tongiht. I really appreicate everyones comments and feedback, thank you!

Top-notch ForkWest, Top-notch!
I Too will give you a little feedback about the music....
LOVED IT!
I think your choice of music really sets the mood for each aspect of the hunt.
Wouldnt change a thing!
Congrats, and THANX!

"Yeah, I'll shoot him"

Loved the music! Loved the video! When can we expect to see you on the Outdoor or Sportsman chanels? That was just awesome thank you for sharing and congrats.

Just wanted to say you made my Saturday morning, that was very nicely done and really enjoyed it. I Can only imagine what it must of felt like to come back to camp and see the carnage from the bear encounter, and then have to try and sleep in the area that night.

Where did you get some of the music from? some of it sounded like it was from the TV boxing reality series that was on ESPN.

Great Job guys... That was a great video I loved the beginning, middle and end.

I had a bear tear up my treestand stash I had a trail camera get the bad boy... (black bear). I even had my food stashed in a 5 gallon bucks... sealed off. Up in the tree. I understand your sleepless night.

I found my stuff tore up and had to spend the night... I had about twenty dreams that night about be yanked off by my ankle.... Stupid mind games!

Great bucks for both for you. Why didn't you take the horses back?

Midnight

LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-09 AT 11:08PM (MST)[p]Looks like a hubba hubba that got destroyed. Just got one and love it. Sorry to hear about the expenses. Still don't outnumber the memories and nice bucks taken. Hope to draw next year...

Can anyone tell me why the videos dont work for me? It just says, cannot view private videos when I click them. It let me watch 1 ans 2 a while back...?

thanks

Sorry guys. When I made the videos I intentionally tried to leave out what I thought were identifiable landmarks. I'll just say there are somve very good PIs on here. I was asked by someone else who hunts the area to take it down. I too want to keep the area on the down low, so, sorry, I had to make it private.
