I have been looking at my draw odds with the 10 resident points I have and decided on two units to apply for, would like your opinions on my choices.

Paunsagunt- archery
San Juan Elk Ridge- rifle

OR just keep building points in the hopes of drawing Paunsagunt Muzzloader in the next 2-5 years. Anybody seen and good muzzloader bucks from the Paunsy in recent years?

I am totally confortable in my abilities with any of the three weapon choices.

Thanks in advance

Jon

You are the only one that can answer that question for yourself. Choose which hunt you would prefer and weigh the options of waiting to draw or hunting sooner. You know what will make you happy, go from there.

Yes there's been some good muzzy bucks on the pauns, same with archery pauns and the San Juan. What unit would you prefer to hunt and what method. Simple as that.

Another thing you should consider is the changes the DWR may be making to the Paunsaugunt season dates for the muzzleloader hunt. I don't know if they have made any changes, but I've heard some ideas about having the muzz hunt early like the general season muzzleloader hunt.

Just some food for thought.

I've been on the Pauns on both seasons and I would take either one.

Can't tell you much about the San Juans.

Either hunt would be fun! The Pauns archery is a great hunt with the chance at a real monster if you put in your scouting time. Do a search on the this websight and you will see some of them. It has been a while since I was on a San Juan deer hunt but I have received pics from friends over the last few years of some nice deer.

You need to decide what weapon type you want to hunt with and what your minimum class buck you want to pursue. There are shooters in the 180+ class on all the deer units. It just depends on how hard your willing to scout and hunt for them! Good luck to ya!

I've hunted the Pauns early before and if they change to an earlier date for muzzleloaders, your best bet would either the archery or regular rifle.
