Best Place to Hunt Big Mulies

Oregon is the best by far. We can camp and hunt with the best of them...and our scenery is right up there with the best of them...so as far as a good place to "hunt big mulies," come to Oregon. If you want to kill one, go to any other state.
Seriously, I think Colorado and Utah.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-23-09 AT 03:48PM (MST)[p]if your talking about a draw hunt I say Arizona or Utah. If your asking over the counter I say coloarado or Idaho. But that being said there are bick bucks every where.

No OTC in Colorado . All deer are by draw. It is possible to get drawn archery in some units with 1 or no points.

Any where there is feed, seclusion, and the right habitat.Get in the back country and a long way from the folks.Look at genetic trends and work that country. There will be big bucks.

I agree Cowboytom--back country--Idaho and Colorado have the most though....Check "the Book"--it's not even close--CO blows them all away.

idaho is a has been. check the record book, it suggests idaho is only second to colorado. limit the entries to the last 5 years, idaho isnt even in the top 5. thats why there were 30% less non resident tags sold in idaho this year. On the plus side, were on the verge of being the #1 wolf producer in the lower 48.

No argument about Colorado but if you can't travel home country holds big ones, just got to go dig them out.

Seems like we are forgetting about Sonora and Canada. I like Colorado; the strip and the Henries are perpetually good. But I'd sure put some of the bucks out of Sonora and Alberta up there, too. And if you look at the bucks SASKMAN takes, that's a darned impressive hunt, too. BCBOY has taken some absolute studs, too.

Yeah ... no monsters in NV.

If one were only to look at the Books, CO has er hands down. While places like the AZ Strip and the Henries pump out some absolute giants every year, can you really say they are the best place to hunt when you have to wait a lifetime to draw a tag??? If you want to Hunt Big Mulies, it is nice to do so on a regular basis. For me, my vote for best place to hunt them is right in my own backyard of super natural British Columbia. Why? Because I get to hunt them for 3 months a year, every year with OTC tags. Now the hunting ain't easy but when you hunt the big boys it never should be easy. BC doesn't get much glory when it comes to muleys, even though we have cranked out some of the top bucks in history. The Dewdney Buck and the Bannister Buck are examples of what BC can produce. The low hunter numbers and extreme remoteness of this province, means with a little luck and a whole lotta smarts a buck can reach his genetic potential. Finding and killing him is a whole nuther story though.

That is probably the number one reason we have had such good numbers of big bucks. Residents only equals low hunting pressure, no outfitters and easy access (free) to private land. I don't think I would want it any other way.

what no votes for the wasatch front. 4 month season rut hunt and loads of huge bucks.

Did I say over the counter tags!

Archery is a year round commitment!!

I would think the JICARILLA RESERVATION NM would be a top choice, They do get a high dollar for their hunts and do put out some monsters every year.

That would be a native outfitter outfitting on reserve land only. I would say buyer beware on those hunts.
