Just wondering if anyone knows of someone who does antler restoration for mule deer antlers.

After my grandfater died it seems that a pile of the "smaller" bucks he took ended up outside in the sun for the last 10+ years. I would like to get 2-3 sets repaired or restored and I will try and get a pic posted of a set so that you can see what I am talking about.

It was sad to find them in a pile behind the carport as both my father and I thought that they were inside the garage with the "big" ones but a few nice racks ended up rotting pretty bad..

Anyway thanks for any info..

Here are the pics of one of the 3 racks that was left out.. As you can see it is not pretty.

I liked this one caus of the double eye guards.

Not sure how the one on the left was big enough to stay inside and the one on the right was put in the pile outside but is shows how much damage is done. Both of these bucks are over 15 years old and shows the difference between dry storage and outstide storage..

To give you a idea of size the buck on the left is 33 1/2" from kicker to kicker..

well I cant help you with someone that can do it, BUT if you go to the Shed Fourm there was a post about doing it awhile back, not sure how far back but it was in 2009.

Also how about posting up some more pics of your G-Pa's bucks we would all love to see them.

I can't help you with who would do it, either, but if you're halfway handy you might be able to spruce it up yourself. Those antlers are pretty far gone. I have had good luck using antler sculpt to restore antlers and points. The antlers that you have would need extensive repair. If you have sheds around you can use the points from those and blend the seams with epoxy. Repairing a point is a matter of adding a wire and epoxy sculpting aorund the wire. You may find a taxidermist willing to do the work, but make sure and check out the work that he has done. All work in this area, as in other taxidermy, is not created equal.

Thanks for the info I may just try and do it myself.

The reason I wanted to fix them is so that I could get a mount done with bucks my grandfather, father, myself and uncle have taken.. I got a place to hang them now and thought it would be cool to have a buck (all over 30" wide) that each one of us has taken.

The buck on the left my father shot and while not his biggest it is not a bad buck. My grandfater did mount one buck (that he got in the late 50's)someone said scored in the 230's... We have not scored any of these bucks and the mount is very very big but my grandma likes it so it will stay in her house.

Again thanks for any help or infomation that you guys have on this.

My dogs got a hold of my deer horns, took it to a taxidermist and hes going to send it somewhere and they are going to make it look brand new. check out what a taxidermist says.
