City Creek Rifle & Muzzle Closure Rescinded For Now

On Thursday the Board rescinded the decision to extend the archery only boundary north to the Davis County line. Which means for now, anyway, City Creek, Emigratin Canyon, East Canyon, and the north side of Parleys is still open to rifle and muzzle hunting. They said the Division would meet with interested parties and come to a reasonable proposal. This proposal would be put on the agenda and brought before the Northern and Central RAC's to gather public input and then back to the Board. This is what should have been done in the first place. I am glad to see the Board realized that the public should have a chance to consider and comment on it before a final decision is made. That is the way the process is supposed to work.

If I understood correctly, the Board said that this would likely come before the RAC's sometime between March and August. So if anyone is interested in this, be looking for this on the agenda at upcoming RAC meetings, attend the meetings, and give your input to RAC's and the Board.

Gonna suck for the guys that plan to hunt it with guns and then find out after they drew that it goes to archery only. Good luck guys!

You (gun) guys are half way there! Now only pray that salt lake county doesn't pass an ordinance banning the discharge of firearms....that will be the dwr's "cop out." I do like that they recinded the current decision as it was made too hastily. Let the democratic process make the decision. My take is close emmigration, but keep parelys, east canyon, and city creek the way they are.

That is good news. I'm a die hard bowhunter, but I'd love for my 12 year old to be able to hunt all 3 seasons up there. It's some of the only country close enough to my home to get out on week days during the rifle hunt.

Cheers,
Pete

This is great news. We as hunters need to try and attend the next RAC meetings to give our opinions and input.
