Just got an email alert that the Hybrid draw is on for units requiring 10 or more resident points.

Anyone know how it works?

Which deer units take more than 10 resident points?

There is a certain percentage of the tags, I believe 20%, set aside for people that have at least 5 pp. These tags are totally random. That way you still have to pay your dues, but have a chance before your an old man!, similar to the weighted points with sheep tags. Thanks for the kind words about my bucks in my post, Robby? I think your the only one on here that would know my name. The only units I can think of without looking it up would be 142 at pinon canyon and maybe a few 4th season hunts.

David!
Yep it's me.
The random sounds like a decent idea, but I don't know the downside. Did the DOW create extra tags for this draw, or is the 20% from the quota?

Hybrid Draw:
The Colorado Division of Wildlife established a "Hybrid" drawing for select elk and deer licenses for the 2010 hunting seasons. The purpose of the drawing is to give hunters the additional opportunity to draw a license for some of the state's premier elk and deer hunting areas. Hunters with five or more elk or deer preference points that select as their first choice a unit requiring 10 or more resident preference points for that species will be automatically included in the random drawing. Approximately 15 elk and three deer units qualify for the drawing.

I think this comes from the existing quota, but Im not sure.

The only downside I see would be having a pile of points and not drawing and hearing of someone drawing with 5 or 6. But that happens anyway in Utah, so Im already used to it.

How did you do this year?

One and the same. I miss the place sometimes, but being stuck inside all the time really got old, especially during hunting season. I do miss getting to talk hunting all the time, face to face. My job as a surveyor allows me way more opportunity to scout and more time off during hunting season
