Just finished this up today. I've been thinking of how to do this for awhile. I took the wife and kids up into the hills of mud to look for a base that would hold the skulls, my wife picked this one up immediately, I couldn't find one that was better. It took some trial and error to figure out the antiquing of the skulls, in fact it was my buddy who found something that worked perfect. It's exactly how I wanted them to turn out. Tell me what you guys think. I shot the top buck this year in Colorado and the other one on the Vernon. I was going to mount the top one but I love how this whole project turned out. I could always throw a different euro on top later if I got the top one mounted.

WOW that looks so good!!!!!

("For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9")

Very cool! I love the look of the skulls... How did you get em to turn out like that (if you don't mind sharing)?

That's sweet! I've been thinking of doing something similar with a big ponderosa stump. This will require some carving, something I have never done. My plan is to mount a muley skull as well as a bighorn skull, which will require some balancing as the bighorn skull weighs about 20 lbs. Well done!

Hey Hardhorn, your welcome for figuring out the skulls. Go ahead and take all the credit. It looks awesome.

3X4, I said my buddy helped figure it out, right? To make it official I hereby declare to everyone that 3X4 found the stuff I used on the skulls to make them look the way they do. He also found out all by himself that it does NOT look good to use black on a buffalo skull.
Utehunter, I was wondering what comment I would get from you after I stated my opinion on that camo skull of yours. That made me laugh, thanks for recognizing it was just an opinion. To each his own.

Very nice, It going to make a great coat and hat rack(anyways in my house it would) LOL

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

I thought that a bleached euro skull was too common so I figured out a way to antique it a bit. I asked about it awhile ago and got a few suggestions. Smitty sent me pics of a bear skull that he had done. His skull looked awesome, I'm going to do a few fox skulls the same color as his which were black. I tried the black on a smaller buck 3X4 had (because that's all he has are smaller ones) The black didn't go well with the brown horns so I changed it up with the brown and bone color. The brown kind of enhances the cracks, eyes and such.

Hey hardhorn I hike my ass off for my small ones, you have to be the luckiest road hunter I know.

I can't hardly type I'm laughing so hard. Just checking to see if you're still online. Remember you can't put a big one on the wall if you shoot them when they're small.

Good call on the Euros, neither are worth shoulder mounts.

I agree with the lower buck, that's why it's been a euro for 4 years since I shot it. If you are saying that the top buck, which scores right at 199 and some change, isn't worth mounting I think you just nominated yourself for biggest joke of these forums. Be careful or you'll take over Manny's top spot.

Apparently you have killed some giant res bucks. I'm sure you've posted them before but I've never seen them, so can you post them up again. While your at why don't you post something you've killed with a tag that the rest of us hold. We always here "this is a state land buck" ya it's a state land buck killed in December with some fancy ass res tag.

Gotta a bigger buck than that just laying on the ground skull capped not even euro mounted or anything. Neither of those bucks are worth killing.

really the buck on the top scores 200 for real?

Hey I just thought I'd shoot it since it's slightly larger than utehunter's buck. Sounds like you tag along with him and hunt the same stuff, must of been good enough for you boys and your special hunts. Let me know when you kill a deer that doesn't require "extra special tags" for "special people" during "special dates". I just hunt public, where every average Joe can hunt, I don't need extra help to get it done.....just luck.

I don't know why people here play these games with you and weminuche. It's like you two don't think anybody besides you guys can kill a big buck by themselves in Colorado. Every time I see you guys doubting a score you are proved wrong. I can list each measurement for you but it would be a waste of time. I know you will call B.S. when I tell you he scored that much and is only 19 1/8 on his inside spread...go figure. Why don't you post what you think his measurements are here for everybody to see and I'll lay a tape on each point and take a picture. Then we can see why you guys are usually wrong.

Dont know if he bigger then mine. hunt rez was not with me when I killed my buck but he does go with me sometimes. I hunt state land too that buck my dad killed passed it up too early in the hunt he was on stateland where all the avrage joe just drove by him.

Didn't you post him around 196ish when you posted pictures after the kill? Just going off your measurement. Don't know your hunting history or you dad's, just assumed stuff with all the talk between you two about hunting until Dec. 31. Sounds like a special hunt to me.

Anyone? Anyone, Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

I never said he was book on anything. The 10 inches of extras pushes him up from the 189 frame. I'm done with you weminuche or hunt rez whatever you want to be called. I was just looking for opinions about the euros I did. Obviously if you are chucking 180-200 deer skull caps around on the ground outside your trailer house you wouldn't be interested in what I put together. I thought indians respected their kills, maybe that's a lesson you can learn from one of us white hunters. Let Utehunter talk for you , at least a lot of guys respect him here.
Thanks to everyone else for the positive feedback on the mounts. If anybody would like to know how to do it I could help.

I respect kills, I respect the meat. The horns are just a bonus. How many of you whiteguys kill and waste the meat. You prob don't even eat deer meat. All you guys are like Nugent kill just to kill. People here don't like me because I speak the truth. And it's hard for them to handle.

Awsome buck and project wish I were as creative.I still think the KILZ primer I use on my skulls are better. jk REDDOG I finally got done laughing at you picture and quote.STAY CLASSY SANTAQUIN.

I know, I should have stayed out of that one. I'm getting alot of pms on the process, it's not hard so I know others can figure it out. I'm letting a taxidermy buddy do a few for some guys before I tell too many people though.

I should give you some of the credit, after I saw the KILZ skulls I had to think of a way to do something better than just white.

Looks way better on a stick than hanging in your garage. Any one that says that Colorado buck isn't worth a full mount is retarded. The pictures I have seen of that bad boy never do it justice, you have to see it first hand to realize how big he is.

Hardhorn that is probably the coolest euro display I've ever seen. That top buck is a toad for sure. I'm sure if huntres had ever killed one that big he would have posted it by now.

The mount turned out incredible. I really, really like the antiqued look. Good job.

A couple real winners trying hard to stir the pot on this one. Seriously lame.

Great looking bucks and the way you antiqued and mounted them is really classy. Ignore the jealous AH's on here.

Thanks Adam, I'll show you what I used on the skulls. Remind me next time you guys are down, it's real easy. Nate helped me figure it out ( I'm required by law to state that...Nate's law).
