Muleys in the backcountry

I am looking into a DIY backpack backcountry archery mule deer hunt for next year.
I am looking at the Medicine Bow areas in Wyoming, since nonresidences are not allowed to hunt wilderness areas without a guide. I also am looking into the Badlands of North Dakota.
Looking at maps and trying to find places with no road access to get away from the people.
I am looking a respectable mule deer with high draw percentages.

Any info would be helpful

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Chris,
I don't know anything about the Wyoming or Badlands areas you mentioned, but if you are going with a bow, you might look at some of the high country on the western side of Wyoming. Although it gets pounded by rifle hunters, there are few bowhunters. As far as draw, you have a chance with 0 points in H (plenty of great deer country outside of wilderness) and can get G with a point or two with no wilderness concerns.

Consider Colorado if you haven't already.

Anyone know anything to help him with the areas he mentioned?

I have spent the last three summers and most of last fall surveying powerlines from Cheyenne to Casper. Most of that time, especially last fall was spent from Medicine Bow to Alcova. I never saw a single person bowhunting anywhere in September and I was there all month(quite a few in the rifle hunt though). Though I never a monster, I did see a really good number of 130 to 160 class bucks. I probably saw 4 or 5 4pt bucks a day, and I wasnt really looking, just saw the bucks by the roads. Sightings tapered off in October. Lots of private land in the area, checker board sections, If you are at all familiar with the public land system, walking in to these sections could be an excellent way to hit some unhunted territory. Be prepared for landowner conflicts, so know exactly where you are.
