Are they dropping in Utah Yet???

I heard they are dropping like flies in some places because the snow is still so deep.

Are we seriously starting to consider pushing them around already to shed hunt?

Absolutely NOT ! ! ! I am headed out to check out the boys I hunted this year on their winter range. I haven't been able to get out to see them this winter, and I didn't want to waste my time if they were without headgear...

I went out Tuesday during my lunch break to look over some of the local deer. Three out of the five bucks I seen had droped one side. If the herd you wanting to go see has not droped them by the weekend it will not be long before the do.

Im from co. and my cuz has picked up 28 in two days off the haystacks lucky sucker.

There dropping in the Reno area, one of my boys who lives in Reno, has found several greenies in the last few days. Don't know about the Eastern Sierra, haven't been out for the last two weeks. Thanks, Brownie.

funny this thread here, as I just posted new stuff on shed hunting....
I agree with you utroy, Colorado's only law though (except the Gunnison area, as far as I know) has no regs on shed hunting, the only thing they rely and TRY to enforce is harrassing wildlife.

Born-2-hunt,

I'm from Utah, Salt Lake/Utah County area. The deer that I have been watching are in the river bottms by the Point of the Mountain. I talked with a brother-in-law that lives in south Utah county on Monday he noticed over the weekend that a couple of the smaller bucks that he has been watching droped one side over the weekend.

You have got to be kidding me! You are killing yourself looking for deer antlers this early. It pisses me off so bad that it has turned to this. Early bird gets the worm I guess. What do you think the percent dropped is? 20-30% Wrong! MAYBe 5-10%. Maybe!!! Give them a freaking break! The snow is deep as hell in some places, and those bucks need some recovery time. I used to be so against a shed season...but if your starting to pound it in late Jan. early Feb. bring it on. Use your freaking brain!!!

Horn,
100% Agree... I just wanted to find out if the boys I chased during the hunts are still packing.

Good post. I might add...I bet it is even less, maybe 1% have dropped already. There are a couple of jackoffs in my area, that were chasing deer off the feedlines two years ago, just to get sheds. I already saw his vehicle parked at one spot in early January!

Every year it gets earlier, not the dropping that hasn't changed a bit, I talking about the idiocy of the people. Here if you are out before 3-15 for deer or 5-10 for elk you better be able to run fast or you won't catch up to 'em.

My parents had a couple small bucks in their orchard (Utah County). Last week, a small 4 point shed and the door bell rings. "Can we go pick up those sheds?" "No, my grandsons like to find them." Next day my boys go up with Grandpa and what do they find? Of course, people tracks and no antlers. Trespassing for a couple dinky antlers, nice values. All I can say is we are "loving" these animals to death. Leave em be.

I saw 15 bucks today, All pack'in both sides, got a couple pics.

Let me get this straight, it's O.K. to take pictures of bucks in the winter range, but it's not O.K. to pick up their shed horns? If you aren't chasing them, then what's the difference?
Don't get me started. Thanks, Brownie.

Wow, have you heard of zoom or a telephoto lens? Not even in the same class. Pretty lame post. Hope I didn't get you started.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-10 AT 08:18AM (MST)[p]There is an army of douches on "shed hunting sites", that have made shed hunting even more unethical the last few years. When people are selling videos, and hosting events over shed hunting, then it is out of hand. Shed seasons have not even stopped people in CO. There are several areas near my town that are off limits until April/May, and when it finally opens, you find boot tracks that are a month old already.

For all you dirt bags out there jumping all over my case for shed hunting. It's time for you to take your panties off and unwind them. The only sheds that I have ever picked up are the ones that I find during the rifle hunt in late October. Just because I have a couple deer near to my work that I have been watching does not mean that I'll even attempt to pick up the sheds. By the way most of the deer that I have been watching are between half mile and two miles away. I find it hard to believe that I'm putting any stress on them at all. Get a life.
