I have had many poeple tell me that there is no whitetails in utah. I have seen Whiteys in logan canyon, portage utah, 31st off ramp in ogden off I 15, and yesterday I seen one whitetail buck with 6 muley does in north salt lake where I 15 turns on to I 80 by the Refinery. infact it was a nice sized buck and had a very heavy body. When the deer ran off I wished I would have had a video camera so that people could see how much differance there is in the way a whitetail runs and a muledeer runs. This deer was 100% Whitetail from the redish color the antlers and that BIG white flag that flys back and forth when they run..

Has anyone seen these deer I am sure they have been living around the flying J and I 15 I 80 area ...

I took some pics of a whitetail in wasatch county last week. If someone will post the pics, I'll send them to your email.

Not if it was during the deer hunt. The proc doesnt specify mule deer, it just says deer.

i can see why any one would say that utah does not have whitetail, extreme northern az does.

more importantly.....why is that deer useing your trampoline, dont they know its bad for your knees?

Now I am calling b.s. on whitetails in northern Az. I have lived here my entire life and have never heard of any. Prove me wrong.

I have whitetails in my back yard in Perry. One little teny-tiny 4-point, a two-point and a couple does. I also have a picture of a deer that looks like a muledeer but with the tail of a blacktail.

When I was taking those pics, I didn't notice that the angle made the deer appear to be standing on the trampoline.
Incidentally, the buck in the pics shed his antlers over the weekend.

I've seen several up logan canyon in the blind hollow and tony grove areas. It would be pretty cool if we could get a huntable population in the river bottoms and leave the mountains to the muleys

That buck looks like a cross between muley and whitetail. Pic number 2....ears look bigger than a normal whitetail and rack lacks whitey eye guards and looks muley!
I saw alot of crosses back in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana.

actually i think i seen it on the dwr site or in the proc it says there is an estimated 50 whittail in utah.
and yes it would be legal to kill one i remember reading about it i will have to see if i can find it again

thanks for finding that i guess my numbers were a little off lol. sounds like they tend to be more in the northern parts of utah.
i sure hope they dont invade anymore than that!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-10 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]Wouldn't it be great if they could place some genetically engineered wolves who only eat whitetails into the state. That way, they could cull out the whiteys and then when they are gone, we can try to hunt them to extinction before they starve themselves out of existence.
