I'm thinking of burning my nonresident points and unit 87? Looks like good odds but is it a good unit???I woud like to here from some people that have hunted it the last couple of years, Any pictures???

Hunter, My partner and i used our max NR points last season in 87 and we didn't regret it. We didn't get or even see any monster bucks on our public land DIY hunt but we did see several nice young bucks daily with a few of those sure to be shooter type bucks, for most guys, this coming season. After 8 days of hunting, I took a older 23" fairly heavy 5X5 and my pard took a nice 27" 170+" class buck himself. We saw several others in this class of buck but they were obviously young deer! I think this unit has potential but maybe-probably not yet, a top trophy unit! :)

Here is both our 2009 87 bucks and my pard from our camp.

Thanks for the info! They look like some nice bucks. How was he hunting pressure? Did the private land get in the way or was there plenty of public land? Cant wait to get back to Wyoming,
allways fun hunting!!!

It's a "limited" Area, not a whole lot of Non-Res tags issued. Just gettin a buck was no hard thing. We held out and looked over some as good as we took, one in particular i passed on was very tall but inside his ears... but with more storms predicted, we took our bucks, very good eating BTW, and got the heck out of there. There is lots of Private in chunks and some checkerboard stuff but plenty of public too with County roads for decent access. Decent area with good #'s of deer.

I took this lope, unit 63, on the same hunt, 13 1/2" very near 7" bases & 7" cutters, 80" gross.

Better photo of my little buck. There were several like this guy running around. No regrets, good fun trip with a great, long time Friend and Hunting Partner!!

Real nice bucks Sageadvice especially for public land. Good job. I'm was thinking of unit 89 on some private with a small trespass fee. Those bucks got me thinking maybe I should consider 87 again. I originally posted questions about 87 and didn't get too favorable responses.

Hunting Fool listed it as a top 5 LE unit for the entire state - ahead of G & H. It has not been mentioned in previous years. Kiss 'o death if you ask me . . .

I've been looking at it. There is a fair amount of public, but there are also 200 tags. It does have the terrain I prefer to hunt. Problem with 89 & 90 is that it's a road hunters delite. Not into that scene. Does look like you can get off the beaten path in 87 if you try a bit.

I'm still debating with my NR points (max minus 1)

Pretty nice bucks Joey ! I hung out on the wrong side of the range evidently !

LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-10 AT 02:49AM (MST)[p]Thanks Guys!

Pat... and Thank you for your pre-hunt advice!

Lots of guys from MM helped me with much needed info before we left for this hunt. No, these aren't the best trophies a guy might get elsewhere, or if we had paid for a big money hunt, but at my age and condition, don't know how many hunts i might have left. This was a really fun hunt with a great friend. A productive DIY hunt where we got to be selective in our taken animals, no hurry, no worry, no problems, that i'll never ever forget!!

Some from here that offered help and info; Willy_P, foundation, blacktailBC, Blank, Naildriver, and rumproast. With all the great info given of the area though, as far as our exact buck hunting location, i still pretty much picked that out on my own using Google Earth and glad it worked out. Thanks again guys, one of the very best things about this place,.. the help you can get for the asking!!!
