Anyone have any insight on whether this unit is worth buring 6 points, have info on the current herd condidtions buck to doe ratio ect or overall quality of a hunt?

Thanks

I might be wrong, but I'd be suprised if 6 points draws the tag this year, for a non-res. I've heard rumor of guys with more than 6 points, that have applied for the hunt. I was planning on applying for a 3rd season tag with 3 points. I wanted a sure draw this year, so I went with a different unit. If you apply, I hope you get it. Good luck!

I have heard of a few people with more points applying for 4th season, you won't draw it with 6.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-10 AT 10:26AM (MST)[p]The DOW site says it took a minimum of 3 NR points to draw in 2009. See for yourself. http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/BigGame/Statistics

I agree. It sure looks like 6 should be a slam dunk unless a few cats were let out of that bag. It took 4 last year to be guaranteed and 3 to have a chance.

Let's see a few of the cats. The unit sure doesn't look too impressive in the record books.

I understand that you had a slim chance of drawing with 3 points in 2009. The Huntin' Fool wasn't calling it the 5th best unit in the state then. They are now. Is it that good? I don't know, but I kind of doubt it. With only five non res. tags, the later dates, and the hype that it's recieved, I've got to believe odds are gonna change this year. Six might draw it, but I wouldn't bank on it.

5th best unit in the state? Are you guys serious, HuntinFool has it ranked that high? You gotta be kidding. I have a friend in Salida who has hunted it for years, out of tradition. Yeah, they get lucky every few years and shoot a 165, 25"er. But they hunt it hard. The unit is not known for large antlered deer, nor is it known for nontypical genes. It is average mass, average width, average tine length. I was going to put my wife in there for a 4th season permit to have a fun hunt without the people, not to kill a giant buck. 5th? hahahaha I guess they gotta send their subscribers somewhere....

I would not waste 6 points in 68. I have hunted up there for cow elk for 9 years of so. I have seen many nice bucks but nothing that would warrent more than a couple of points. 5th in the state? I don't know about that.

Well it sounds like with all the hype the units getting 5-6 points wont be enough this year. Maybe thats a blessing. But I would venture to ASSUME and thats where I cold be goiong wrong, but if there is allot of 150-160 type deer theres got to be some big one's lurking around and it's just a matter of sortin through allot and not pulling the trigger. But then again Ive never hunted that unit so........

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-10 AT 04:16PM (MST)[p]I imagine it's a good unit, but when compared to the rest of Colorado and B&C entries it looks like it sucks for big bucks. According to B&C it's one of the worst counties in the state.
