Mule deer dilema

I received a call today from the DWR where I received the news that I was an alternate for an expo vernon rifle tag....

Good news except for the fact that I also drew a Book Cliffs archery tag with only 2 points.

What is everyones opinion on which way to go?

Can't you take both? at least in other states raffle permits don't count and you can have both permits. If I had to choose Book Cliff archery 100%

Do bolth if you have the time or turn your book cliffs in and spend time on the vernon and then hope you draw a better tag next year. The books you will see a ton of deer on the bow which is good for a bow tag. On the vernon you will not see as much deer on the rifle. In fact you will see more hunters. But you can find some good deer on the Vernon if you put your time in. Alot of people bad talk it and say how poor it is, but if you put your time in you will prove them wrong. 5 dollars you cant beat that. If you turn your vernon tag back make sure you contact me and i will give you my phone number so you can give it to them so they can call me I will take the tag.

Since I didn't draw the bookcliffs archery tag with 6 points, you can turn it in for the expo tag & we can both hunt LE!

I'd hunt Vernon simply for the bonus points. Both are good units but you'll keep your points and have no waiting period if you hunt the Vernon. Then within just a few more years you can draw the Books. If you go the other way it could take you 12 years + to draw the Vernon rifle tag. And you do have to choose only 1 hunt, they won't let you do both.

Take the vernon tag with the expo tag there is no waiting period so you can put in for the book cliff hunt next year. you will get your points plus this years. If you you take the BC tag you will have a great hunt but then have a 2 year wait to put in for deer again. with the vernon you can put in again next year

Take the expo tag. You'd be stupid not to. then next year you could hunt book cliffs if you draw it again. Seriously, why wouldn't you want 2 limited entry hunts instead of 1?

Knowing what i know i would take the vernon tag hands down and save the bonus points for the next draw and possibly hunt limited entry next year as well. If you do take the vernon tag, do alot of scouting and prepair for your hunt well and you can have some great sucess out there. good luck on what ever you do.
