Will be bow hunting north of Elko, NV this August. Just wondering how prevelant the wolf problem is in this area. Just trying to get an idea of what to prepare for. Any info. is appreciated. Thank you.

What do you mean by "prepare"?

There are likely a few wolves somewhere in Elko County but I wouldn't call them "prevalent".

I'll be huntin Bulls there in Elko County in November. I'll drop dead if I see a wolf.......and will be prepared to blow the guts out of a coyote.

There are No wolves in Nevada, but there a few really big coyotes. Best of luck.

from the "Heartland of wyoming"

Thanks for the input. I was under the impression that there were wolves that had continued to migrate west into Nevada, Oregon, and California. I have had a few sightings of wolves in wyoming and idaho, but haven't been to concerned being that I had a rifle in my hand. It is a different story this year however being that I will only have a bow in hand.

wtf are they eating in ca??

great post/pic, thanks for sharing

As far as wolves in nv I have heard of them in the jackpot area, and one or two every now and then everywhere else in the state. As far as being prepared for them, DON'T MISS!!!!!!!!!!! and just to be safe get one of them little colappsable shovles and be quiet.

I'm sorry but if you are concerned about being in the outdoors with only a bow in your hand maybe you should find a new hobby.
And I don't want to really freak you out but be aware there are lots of Mountain Lions in Nevada.

Believe it or not, there are NO wolves in Kalifornicated. But, we do have the scary sasquatch and mentally challenged progressive liberals. Oh, and I guess we know have the wolverine to contend with. Watch your flank.

Someone needs to kill them mt lions and reduce the bear populations. The hunters certainly can't. Not by choice anyway. If you see a wolf or big cat in Cali do the right thing.

Accubond, will you be in area 7? I've heard rumors of a couple of wolves but have never seen one or seen tracks or heard any howls myself. I'd be more concerned about lions but they really are no threat. Also be aware of lightning and fires. fatrooster.

I agree that lightning and high winds which can make a wildland fire cover more country than you can run will be a bigger threat than all of the animals that have the potential to eat you.

And just how many hunters are killed or injured annually, all across North America, by wolves, bears, lions, and all the other 4 legged threats????

You're more likely to injure yourself traveling to or from your hunt than you are to be attacked by a wild animal.

According the the Nevada Department of Wildlife, THERE ARE NO WOLVES IN NEVADA! If you see any large coyotes, do us all a favor and fling a stick in their direction.

Fatrooster,
We will be hunting in area 6.
Also to resond to a different comment earlier that if I'm worried about wolves maybe I should take up a new hobby. I have hunted my entire life and there is no way that I am going to quit. I have hunted in northwestern wyoming (sunight basin) on several different hunts where there are lots of grizzlies and wolves. All I was trying to do was get some feedback from people who have hunted in this area of Nevada.

Hate to let the NDOW down, but I saw a light grey wolf last October in area 16. If I would have been quicker on the draw, could have eliminated him. I'm not crazy, I had two witnesses with me. Hope he was just passing through, cause he could do a lot of damage to that zone.

Thanks, Brownie

Brownie, would you mind sending me a PM with some specifics about where this was? I know some people who would be interested. Oh and rest at ease I don't care what you were hunting where. Its the wolf I want to know about.

wolves in 16 ha. come on. no one has seen them anywhere in nevada and they made it all the way to the middly of the state? really dude, think about it. not possible

Thank god we have that forcefield here in Utah to keep out the wolves what with them in WY, ID, NV, CO, it would seem that we are surrounded, but we have the DWR forcefield, not one DWR employee has see a wolf. You know this is true because wolves usually live in the forest and their are no forests at the DWR offices or in town where the fish cops live so unless one climbs in the crew cab as it travels to Salt Lake, we are safe!!!! OH thank the lord!!!!

Back in 07 in 062 I saw a huge "coyote" at about 100 yards watching me. Put the worst feeling in my gut. It will wake you up!

("For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9")

Do some of you really know how big a huge coyote is? A 40 lb. coyote is a huge coyote. A small wolf is twice that size! trust me, there are NO wolves in 062, or central Nevada! There are much better chances of seeing a bear than a wolf! and not the one on Idaho street!

NVMDF

Is that a fact? Well I hate to tell you BUT in fact I have seen a Wolf (big coyote That way I can shoot it!) in 062. And there are two others that where there with me!

Not if someone dumped the out! You know there's alot of new wilderness in that country, and theres also alot of elk in that country. Don't think that the anti's don't know that!
Thanks, Brownie
