After being unsuccessful my first two years, I have finally drawn a Tag in New Mexico!

I have never killed a Mule Deer and I would greatly appreciate any information about Unit 23 in Southwest New Mexico. I know it is a larger unit and borders Arizona and the Gila.

Does anyone have any advice about the area? I know there was a big fire a few years back....

Congrats on a great tag! Hunt the AZ/NM border in the middle part of the unit. Here is a monster that was arrowed in that unit a couple years ago....

Good luck!

Very nice!

I was thinking about doing the northern part of the unit. But I will go by whatever you think. Should I be looking for flatter/lower elevations in mid November or in the higher elevations to the North?

I have no idea about Mule Deer patterns in the area....

Thanks for all your help!

Hunt the transition (vegetation edge like pine/oak to juniper/grasslands type) areas in November in that area and you should see some bucks. Good luck!

If that burn has new growth I would be scouting and hunting that area.
If all the rain we got reached there it should have good growth.
