Colorado 13 points 2011

My brother and I have 13 points as of this year for CO mule deer and would like to look into planning a hunt for next season or the season after that. We generally are DYI hunters and have all the gear for such a hunt and prefer to DYI. But on this hunt I'm leaning toward a semi-guided or guided deal just to get us in the right area. I would hate to waste the 13 years of points and go into an area blind. I really don't have the time (I'm from michigan) to go out and scout. I would allow 3-4 days on the front end of a hunt to get familiar with an area but thats about all I could do. If any of you guys have some ideas let me know.

Rifle?

What is your expectation and are you willing to eat the tag if you don't get to your expectation?

You need to refine your question.

Are you willing or wanting to do a high country hunt?

Physical ability level?

Once you answer these questions, you can use the feature on this web site to look at those high point total hunts and focus on those that fit your answers.

Of course if you hire a guide who allows you on some private land, you might get that without blowing all your points.

It is always going to be a risk making your choice, but you can at least understand our risk when doing the research.

Many underestimate what amount of effort is needed even in the best zone, so for those people a guide would help in a huge way.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-10 AT 10:27AM (MST)[p]Yes there is always is a lot to consider. Looking mainly for rifle, maybe muzzleloader.
I would eat a tag but I really like venison better. We are not "Trophy" hunters but both have shot some decent stuff over the years. If the opportunity presents itself the bigger the better but we are realist also. We can do the high country hunt and will go where the animals are. We'll do the work. I hunted G mostly solo last year and carried one out of there 6 miles back to camp (two trips). Shot him up top, not a huge buck but decent 4x4. We both can shoot well and fairly far if need be.
I'd say we'd be happy with anything over 175ish. Just doing some leg work now so we can get a game plan for next year.
