I would like to get some opinions on what unit you would apply for in Arizona if you had 8 Bonus points and would like to put in for the best unit with a realistic chance to draw out!! method of take does not matter.....bow, muzzleloader or rifle!!!!

Bow, mzzyldr or rifle makes a tremendous difference on your request for decent odds to draw....

So does early rifle or late rifle... early mzzyldr or late mzzldr.... early bow or late bow....

Might not hurt to be a little more organized when ya want some help/info.... just a thought...

Unit 9... is that the new unit by the new mall??

For $25, you can purchase the bonus point analysis from G&F. It gives the draw odds of each bonus point group for each hunt, but it does not have a distinction between res and nonres. If you are a resident, it would not matter, just concern about BP#. There might be a different analysis that give the number of BP for nonresidents applying, and how many NR drew in the 20% pass for max points, and how many NR drew to see if the 10% NR cap was met in the 20% pass.

Anywhere in Northern AZ during the rut, archery or early rifle. You really cant go wrong up here as long as you dont just show up the night before the hunt starts, expecting to kill a 400 bull.

The online application isnt whats making it so hard to draw a good tag, its all these yahoos that charge a fee to put you in for the top units in every state, and the people that use these services.

Good luck, do it yourself.

Is that ethical?

Thanks, I have been putting in for 9,10 and 27 for the past 8 years and am just trying to weigh my options.....I know I am getting close to drawing, but definately want to hunt the rut doesnt matter what weapon type....I s it worth even applying for the early rifle permits in these units? is it possible for a non resident to even draw one? thanks Dennis

With the draw date being pushed up for the first time ever, you got a decent chance of drawing a premier archery tag and a long shot at drawing a rifle/muzzleloader tag. You might want to go early rifle in 10 or 23 first choice and archery 9,10, or 8 second choice. You will have a great hunt in any of these units. Az looks at your first 2 choices before they go to the next. I would not put in for 27. It is good but not that good. Problem with putting 9 archery for your second is that it is almost as hard as drawing a rifle/muzzleloader tag. If you really want to hunt this year, I would go 9 archery first choice and 10 archery second. Got a real good chance of getting 10 second choice and that hunt won't dissapoint, especially now that we are getting a some snow and rain. Archery has better dates, longer season and it is more fun to get up close and personal with these critters.

When are you going to tell me how that deer hunt went. What is your take on the new landowner permits?

I actually think some of these hunts are harder to draw archery than rifle. But if you have as many bonus points as you say you do, dont weaken. Dont blow them on a hunt your not sure about. Keep putting in for the good hunts, when you finally draw one (if your not so old your in a wheelchair) then you'll be happy you stuck to your guns.

Good luck, hopefully you draw one before AZGFD opens the floodgates to hunters, thats the one thing that might kill your quality hunt you have waited so long to get.
