My 31 inch Wasatch buck

I've been taking some taxidermy classes from a local taxidermist and I feel pretty confident in my capabilities as a decent taxidermist. I've done a few critters and have had some help with them and all have turned out really well. For practice I decided to mount my 31 inch Wasatch front buck. I had help on him just so I wouldn't mess it up too badly. I think it is turning out nicely...what do you think?

Nice Job!
Impressive brow tines!

I love not acting my age,
Damn I love my NASCAR race,
And Hell yes I love my Truck!

great looking buck and the mount is looking good too!

Post up some pics when he's all the way done!

Very nice buck, Taxi job is looking good too.

Thanks guys. I'll post more pics when he is completely done. Keep in mind I owe a lot to the person teaching me. He lets me do everything myself but will instruct me if things are good or need improvement. With him coaching me I believe it is turning out really well. I'm going to do another all by myself and we'll see how well I do. Thanks for the compliments.

I'd shoot a yearling if it had spikes like those brow tines!

That buck is a shooter for me almost anywhere. Nice job!

HE MIGHT BE AN AMAZING BUCK, BUT WHY THE HECK DOES HE HAVE A BLOODY NOSE??? hehehe

this guy imo is a perfect buck. i love the g1's, i love the spread to heighth ratio. what a dandy...

That is one great rack! Beautiful deer. Did you shoot him with a bow? Is that why you went with a non-swollen neck? Or was that just the cape you used to match up with it.

I think it is pretty awesome for a first attempt. I am not sure if it will win taxidermy awards just yet, but you are definitely well on that road. Great looking buck and mount.

I would be happy to have it in my house.

Let's see what Quadfather thinks though (not that he is any greater authority than the rest of us - he just seems to be more negatively vociferous than the rest of us. I am sure he will not reserve his opinion either way.)

Pretty sad that some of the best taxidermy on this site is coming from a guy that is just learning! Good job.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-13-10 AT 10:24AM (MST)[p]Yeah, this buck is a bow kill. He had just started to come into his winter coat (you might be able to tell from the pic). He had also just scraped and was fresh out of velvet. I like his look with the shorter haired cape. It shows his muscle detail and makes him look sharp.

The bloody nose was because he wasn't cooperating when I was trying to put the hide on....so I socked him in the nose!

Thanks for all the compliments. This buch for me is a dream come true.

I wouldn't have a problem smoking that buck anywhere.....

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

Cool - I love the cape, glad it was his original cape. Does him justice. Beautiful buck.

He was killed in '06 Wasatch archery extended. He has been in the freezer at the taxi's for a while and I finally pulled him out to mount him up this year. I've always wanted to get him done, just didn't ever have the money to do it....so I pulled him out and took some classes to mount him myself so that I can do my own mounts. I'm kind of a perfectionist and an artist and like things done just so (my way). I've never officially had him scored.....If I like it-I shoot it and don't worry about score. I know what I like when I see it.

WHAT DO YA'LL THINK HE SCORES?
