Here is a buck that I have a little history with I chased him the entire archery season last year in Nevada but was unable to get him. I put him at about 180 to 185 last year but he was a mainframe 3X4 and with his cheaters was a 6X6. Last weekend while scouting for my brother who drew the tag this year we found him again, he has changed quite a bit his left side is about the same with the two cheaters on the G3, but his right he grew a great G4 mathching his left, he only has one cheater on his G3 last year he had 3 but his g3 is going to split on the top this year.

Anyways how big do you guys think he will get this year??

LAST EDITED ON Jul-14-10 AT 11:50AM (MST)[p]I don't think he will be over 175-180 gross this year. Weak inside spread. Tines are short. To me he looks like he has a 165-170+ frame now and doesn't have much left in the growing season I think he might get a few more inches.

good luck tape him when he's down

Beautiful buck. Unfortunately, I think you are looking at a young deer with great genetics. Keep tabs on him until next year.

I would agree that he looks like a young deer we knew he was young last year when we were hunting him, but like I said last year he was a solid 180 class deer with the extras so he had to be at least 3 1/2 then so now he has to be at least 4 1/2.

I think he has quite a bit of growing left to do he has big nobs on top of all his points and he is bigger at this time of year this year then last. Hopefully we will get some more pictures before the hunt and than maybe get him on the hunt and we will lnow for sure!

Here is a couple other photos from the trip:

A nice Solid 4 with a cheater on his left G3:

Unless he starts to put on more tine legnth he will be wide but will not score well. Put another 4-6 inches on each time of his and he would be a high scorer. As is I think 175 is high for an estimate. 165 is more realistic. I like this buck and I hope it works out for you.

Your buck is a great buck with a bow for sure. If I had the tag and he stepped in front of me Id take the shot.

Here are a few photos of a could be 180 class four point for comparison. It is over 30" wide and has a few extras on each side you cant see in the photo. The photo was taken about a week ago.

Here is another buck that is a gross 180 class deer. he was right on 32" wide and has 14" g4's. My daughter pick up his shed this winter and we scored the one side right on 80"

That buck is going to be a toad. Look how low his forks start, he is going to have some awesome backs. Got to be in the 190's with trash. Spread doesn't mean #####, it is limited by the length of the main beam anyway.

PS, I love how people think you can determine age by looking at a deer, total BS without a tooth study!

Thanks for the replies on this the pictures were just taken with a cheap digital camera held up to a swarovski scope, the elk pictures were both over a 1000 yds away.

I am in no way trying to say this buck is 180 class yet but definatly think he will get at least there. I watched this buck and hunted him for over 20 days last year and I am usually a pretty good judge of size and I know he would have grossed over the 180" mark.

The growth of these deer in Nevada is interesting, I killed a buck in this same unit back in 2001 that on june 28th was not even 100" and he finished out august 11th at 178 gross 3X4, and would have been in the mid 190's if he had a g3. Some of the bucks out there look like they are done and some like this one look like they have a lot left. We will see how he ends up i will keep you posted.

found him again this last weekend sorry no photos but I was surprised and excited about how much he grew in a week. His cheaters are starting to hook like last year

Not to be intrusive or anything but what area is he in? He looks idenical to a buck I watched all of last september. PM me if you dont want to give him away to half the country.

I am guessing that these photos are from the start of July. Get out there and have another look at him as soon as you can and you will know what he will be during hunting season.

I have been watching several bucks around SLC. They started to show their true frame structure and mass around the start of July and are now packing on the tine length.
My guess is that the bucks i have been seeing will be over 95% complete in the next week or so. I feel that these deer will be done growing in the middle of August.

Be sure to update us with the next round of pics.

Just my thoughts. Nice photos and thanx for sharing.

We are leaving today with a little luck we will soon be able to tell you, "How big will he get"? Two more days then the arrows can fly. Good luck to all with tags!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-10 AT 09:26AM (MST)[p]Here is an updated picture of the buck he grew a ton from the first photo and is a lot bigger everyware except his week G2's which he had last year too. He is a nice deer and really cool there are lots of people hunting him but he managed to slide out the first day. We are still interested in this deer but have started chasing a huge typical deer. Anyways thought you would like to see how he changed pretty amazing the differance from July 11th the first picture to July 30th this picture! ALso there are a couple photos of the one he is after now

Wow, he did put on some inches in just 20 days! Hard to tell but he looks quite a bit wider, and close to 185-190 by the last photo!

Holy crap ARROWHNTR looks like things are going well for you guys. That thing did put on some serious weight. That typical is amazing too. I'm cool with your sloppy seconds no matter which one your brother gets. Keep the updates coming!

Just got an update from Nevada I guess the non-typical buck was killed yesteday by some lucky hunter, hopefully somebody has a picture and can post it. My brother is still after the big typicall got close to getting a shot last night!
