My best buck to date. And a bonus to have my wife, and Dad watch all the action from a distance.

I have not had a chance to score him yet. This was my first big velvet buck and I wasn't sure how to take care of the velvet so I put the cape and head in my big freezer. His velvet is almost perfect and I really want the mount to turn out nice. So I tried not to touch it to much.
Any guess on score?

That's a great buck. Nice forks, great width, and pretty tall too. Looks awesome in the velvet. Congrats!

I'd say he would score in the low 180's. It's hard to tell though, you look like a pretty big boy and probably make it look smaller than it really is(I do exactly the opposite!). Whatever he scores, he is an awesome archery buck. Good job.

Yea I don't care what he scores. I had to sprint the last 400 yards strait up hill. Fell three times and had about 10 seconds to catch my wind, put the range finder on him and take the shot. I was so exhausted and had such a adrenaline rush I just laid down so I wouldn't pass out. It was a sweet hunt.

I do need to loose a few pounds :)

Congratulations on a great bow buck! Some still roam the hills. This one got to take a ride in your truck.

That is a great buck! To have your family there just makes it even better! As for losing a few pounds, I can relate....

LAST EDITED ON Aug-24-10 AT 09:04AM (MST)[p]Central region. And the best part, we didn't see another hunter. My wife and I where back at it last night and had a small buck at 18 yards and need him to take one more step. He didn't but my wife still felt the rush and thats all that matters. There is no drug in the world that compares to drawing your bow on a nice buck or bull.

Awesome buck. Getting him with a bow makes it all the more special. Congrats to you for your success and for being able to share the experience with family.

I'm saying 181. Again, a great buck for any open region. My little bro drew a rifle tag for the Central region. Hopefully we can get on a buck like that. He'll be glad to see that they do exist!

I put a tape on him last night. 39 7/8 of mass. 24 3/8 inside spread. both g2's and g3's where over 11 1/2. My personal guess was 182 but I was happy when the calculator said 189 1/4 with a net of 185 3/8.

By far my best buck. My buck of a life time, I guess the 10,000 arrows I shoot a year and all the working out fanaly paid off. Two years ago I missed a buck that was well over 190 maybe I will finally stop having nightmares! :)

Thank you all for the kind comments.

How much does a velvet buck usual shrink? Do I need to strip the velvet to have him officially scored? If so I wont get him scored, the velvet is to perfect.

Good for you!

You can enter it in the Velvet class for P&Y......
