My thought was that this buck would be right about 150 P&Y minimum.

I would say 165-170, he's got great backs. let him grow for a couple years and he will be a dandy!!

Here's another angle. I just kept looking at him thinking, I wish you were a little wider, had some extras, had some better eye guards, a little more mass--yet at the same time, he does seem to have potential.

I love photos & stories like this, "ya know he's a real good buck...but not quite ripe yet, he's got potential". WHAT, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Call me crazy, call me immatuer, call me anxious, etc...I wouldn't even hesitate on a buck like that, but then again I'm not a 'trophy hunter' either. Granted we all want to take a monster or trophy buck at some point in our hunting career's, but the bottom line is meat in the freezer is more important to my family and I than antlers on the wall. Here's a philosphy I strive to live by while out on the hunt..."don't pass on the first day, what you'd settle for the last day". For me personally, a buck like that is the total package...JMHO.

bbentley you are a good man. If you had any idea how down I am with wild game meat you would want to BBQ with me all the time. You should hope there are more hunters like me out there because we are passing on bucks you will be happy to tag. I'm also a good guy to have in camp because when you tag a 3 point, I'm there to help haul it out of the field.

You said, every hunter wants to take a trophy at some point in their lives. I agree with that statement. That's why I'm passing on bucks now that I would have normally hammered without question in days past. Other than just hoping I get lucky and the first buck I see on the opener is a gagger, I feel I am having to learn to pass on a few.

he is a pretty buck, me not having a nice deer like this under my belt, it would be hard for me to pass on him. i would probably squeeze the trigger on this one. he is a nice deer all around. good luck with the hunt.
