This buck (and several others) stray from Antelope Island every year and wander around in un-huntable city areas near the Great Salt Lake... Last year I found a 30" typical, over 190" hanging with some average 150" bucks... This is my first encounter with the big non-typical I had heard about... Pics taken with a phone by my best friend...

These smart bucks make a break back to the Island almost as soon as any guys start harassing them too close, or too much...

I live out in Syracuse really close to the causeway going out there and have yet to see any stray off the island. I have talked to an officer that lives out on the island and he was telling me that these deer go on and off the island like clockwork. Pretty interesting that they travel so far on a regular basis!

Yeah, last year we watched the big typical out there for most of the summer... On the opener he was nowhere to be found. After a few days, I thought he must have got stuck... My neighbor (who also watches these bucks) decided to head out to the Island, and wouldn't ya know it, there was the big typical...!! Same story with this non-typical. Amazing animals...

Browningrage What are you implying?? You said on the opener he was no where to be found. Just trying to figure out what you mean. Was you hunting him off the Island. On the lake bed?

I live in Nevada and am not very familiar with the island. So are you saying that they swim back and forth? From what I remeber I would guess that to be a mile long swim? Maybe more. fatrooster.

There is a 7 mile-long causeway/road to the island. I would imagine they would walk along the wide banks of the causeway.

right now 6 of 7 miles there is no water lake is low and on a high year only a couple ft deep. I am thinking that last mile might be a 1 deep

If even a ft deep, I live here and there is no water! Ran into the 11x13 last week out there with my four year old, he is the first non 4 point I have seen so far. There was even some disucssion somewhere of bison in farmington bay. I wouldn't be suprissed at all if they (deer/bison) wandered back and forth all the time.

No, I wasn't even hunting him to be honest... He was usually on a bit of land posted "No Hunting". But we thought it would be cool to see if he hung around through the season or not...

Would you believe there is another Giant out where these pictures were taken..? Last night, we went to see if we couldn't find this guy, the huge non-typical that I've never seen or anything else...
We happened across a HUGE typical... I think he might have had a 5th point on his right side... All I know is that it is the largest deer I have ever seen... Unfortunately, we left the camera at home... (My dad, bro-in-law and I). I can only assume he is the same typical from last year (190"). Only he's put on about 20-30" of bone... I will be down there every night this week trying to video and snap some pics of him in hopes of posting them here...
