Anyone on this forum do any hunting down this way? Not lookong for your secret spot but some info would help me out alot, want to take my son down on the rifle with me and try and get a deer it will be his first experience hunting. Thanks for your time ,please let me know.

My recomendation is don't take him there for his first experience. The south was hit hard last winter and deer numbers seemed to be the worst I remember in many yers.

Better around Panguitch & Hatch than on the Dutton though.

I second Dub, I have spent a lot of time down in that country the past 15 years and I have never seen it this bad. Not only are there no bucks, but there wasn't much of a fawn crop this year. For a kids first hunt it would not be a wise choice IMO.

treedagain, you probably should have kept it a little quieter and PM'd him. Now that everyone knows about this area, it will be wall to wall, bumper to bumper traffic, and you probably won't be able to find a parking place. Good Luck though, I hope they get a good one.

How familiar with the Southern unit are you? I would probably point a kid in the right direction, but it's not an easy area to get at nor easy to find, it does, however, hold great bucks every year.

I am sure you have all the info. you are looking for, but I will just second, or third what everyone has said about the southern unit especially the area around Panguitch and Hatch. I have hunted this area my whole life, and I have never seen it this bad. If you are looking for a good hunting/harvesting experience with your son I would recommend taking him somewhere else.

Wow had high hopes but there not looking to good now, thanks everyone for your info , I will just hope for the best!
