I'm a terrible writer so here are a few pictures from my No. UT public land hunt.
First day of hunting. Nothing but thick fog that never burned off.

Second day hunting. It was clear for the morning but after a 3 hour hike in the dark, I only saw 3 does and a 2 point. At 12:30 the fog hit so it was time to set up the tent and try to take an afternoon nap.

5 hours of fog gets old and cold so it was time to heat up some chili

It lifted for about 12 minutes around sunset.

Then another bank rolled through.

Third day hunting. Finally no fog. I found a different 2 point about 8:30. And then around 9:30 I spotted this 3 point about 550 yards away on the other side of the canyon.

I snuck down a finger ridge to a top of a small cliff and get within 243 yards.
He was on the hill side in the middle of the Pic. (deer not visible in this pic)

I got set up and waited for him to turn broadside. When he did I took a shot. He immediately dropped and rolled downhill about 15 yards. He got back up on his feet and stood there wobbling like he was about to go but that's when my second shot put him down for good.
Here is how he looked when I got over to him

After deboning him I loaded him into my already 55 lbs pack and headed for home with over 100 lbs on my back. 800 yards up hill, across the top a ways, and down the main trail. The downhill is what killed me. A big thanks to my brother and nephew for meeting me halfway down and lightening my load.

Here is the traditional picture with the arms extended (actual width 24 inches)

I always get bummed when the fog rolls through, from the looks of it in the pictures, its thiiick! But very nice 3 point. And walking down steep hills sucks more than walking up them. Congrats!

That's a great 3 pt! Great job on a fun hunt. (I also really admire that chili spoon! - Nice - reminds me of some of my lunches lately when I forgot the plastic wear!)

Thanks for sharing. Anyone that can't appreciate your story because the buck is less than 30 inches is probably a lost cause. Reminds me of the country I grew up hunting.

That is a sweet buck Dan! Your story makes me feel guilty for complaining about my 3 hour drag...

Thanks for all the replies. It was fun to get this one on the ground. My body has now forgiven me for the 5 hour pack out.

When my 7 year old daughter came home from a friend?s house, she immediately ran to the swing set to see the deer hanging. She was a little disappointed that there wasn't a deer there. (She loves to pet them, touch the eyes, and watch me skin em) She did perk up when I told her there were meat bags hanging from the deck. She ran to check and came back joyfully proclaiming "Yea! We have meat!" And of course the skull still had some eyeballs for her touch.

Music to my ears. Gives me hope to know that there are parents out there raising some girls who aren't afraid of red meat.
