Well here we go again, it has been a great year for my kids. About one week after my daughter killed her first buck with a muzzle loader (story posted on MM about 2 weeks ago), my 14 year old boy and I were on our way to the wall tents we set up in Idaho for the deer hunt. We had spent a lot of time scouting and had spotted a few really nice deer we had high expectations for the hunt this year. Opening morning our hunting group split up and went different directions to increase our chances, my boy, my cousin and I were set up glassing our predetermined area. We glassed up two of the bucks we scouted moving into a draw about 600 yards away. One of the bucks was a 28? 180 to 185 straight four, the other was a 24? main frame with a five inch and a four in cheater off of his left, and a four inch cheater off his right. As my boy, my cousin and I were making our way around the hill to put the hurt on these bucks some Jack A saw us and started to shoot at 1000 plus yards away and blew the bucks out of the country. After a few choice words we regrouped and made a plan for the rest of the mornings hunt. We decided to drop way off of the mountain and glass and push a few hidden pockets. As we were rounding the hill there was a big aspen patch right above us. My cousin immediately spotted a bedded buck and told my boy to get ready. My boy set up his shooting sticks and jacked a shell into his trusty 7mm. One well placed shot and the rest is history. As we approached the buck he just kept getting better and better. My boy was as excited as can be. This buck is just over 25? wide and has a 177? main frame and 14 3/8 inches of trash for a total gross score of 191? and some change. We are very fortunate to live in an area where we can hunt on public lands and have chances to harvest animals such as this. The memories we make every year during the hunt are what it is all about. My hat goes off to my cousin who spotted this deer and gave my 14 year old son first shot. I hope I can repay the favor to him sometime in the future. He truly is a great hunting partner.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. My boy seems to think that he is now Mr. BC, I had him on 4 nice bucks on the Utah opener and he refused to shoot because "Dad, they are just not big enough" I think I may have created a monster.

Hopefully he's not ruined......might be years before he takes another one like it. I guess thats if he doesn't get burned out before!! Awesome buck.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...
