WHERE ARE THE BIG BUCKS?

It seems that fewer big bucks are being reported on average
from past years, at least being posted on websites like MM.
Even rumors of big bucks being taken seem to be less than in
previous years.
Is this because there are less big bucks out there or are the
successful hunters holding back for optimal media exposure of
their trophies?
It just seems that way to me this season so far. What do you
guys think?

Don't expect too much with herd numbers the way they are.

why should someone post a photo on here if they can get as much as $800 bucks or more in a magazine. Im not talking about eastmans cheap dozen arrows mag either.

I think the guys getting the big ones just dont post them as much any more like they used to.

There are no big bucks in Utah! LOL

I know of several big bucks that have been killed this year that haven't made the rounds through mm, e-mail or text. I don't blame people for not wanting that info out. With just a small amount of info and a couple clicks of the mouse you can find out what unit the buck was killed in and if they arn't smart with how they took the pics you could narrow it down to where in the unit the buck was shot. Just look at how hard it is to draw a good tag anymore, I don't blame them for keeping quiet.

I know a certain MMer that has killed 2 bucks over 200 this year not to metion his wife killed a 395 bull.I think some people just don't like their stuff posted all over the web. Like NV4life, I am also aware of many big bucks killed this year that haven't been posted on MM.This has been an exceptional year for big bucks, and we haven't even seen the results of CO 3rd season.

Sure, there will always be a few big bucks harvested!
Don't know how many of you have been out of the house or how many different places you've been this year?
But the Deer Herds in several regions are in big trouble!
Ya,I've seen a few decent Bucks here & there, but is a handful of Big Bucks gonna satisfy 97,000 Tards?
I highly doubt it,but no good/major changes will take place again & all permits will sell out again next year!
In nearly 40 years I've seen no major change to improve the Deer herd!

It would take such major change you'd have the Opportunists stirred up once & again,TFB!

Why post...really?

If you post on here four things will happen:

1) somebody will try and rip you a new one for not having orange on in the photo or wiping blood off the deer's face

2) somebody will try and find your hunting spot and possibly succeed

3) somebody else will get in an argument with you over how much it scored, etc

4) if its REALLY a big buck, someone will accuse you of poaching, using a chute plane, an atv, shooting too far

....the list goes on but I don't have to. I understand exactly why guys don't want to put their bucks up here

Ryan just sent you a cap and shirt. LOL

If you have the time and a little money for a navjo res. hunt you could have a real good chance of baging a 190+ buck .
I do a lot of coyot hunting and come across a lot of huge deer but jus cant find it in my hart to pay 1000 dollars for a tag on the res.when they pay 40 for the state tag's and 28 for a resident ,tag. this is what keep me from paying. in 2003 i call the Dep.o.g.a.f. and after talking to some one in charge
of the left over tag's and was told that they had 2 left over
for 150.00 ea. so after a 300 mile drive one way and got there to have this lady tell me she made a boo boo and the price was 250.00 ea. as i am i said no and after geting back in my truck and geting ready to leave my bother said lets just pick them up .so here we go back in to have this same lady tell us they just went up to 400.00 ea .so we dont hunt the rez.

I think you're spot on. I also don't think this year has really been too special. Sure there's been a handful of bigger bucks killed, but overall I think it's been fair at best.

Guys are better off keeping their pictures to themselves. Sad but true.

Canyoncrosser I dont want another 180 deer. Its go big or go home this year in Colorado. If I am lucky enough to get a good one this year I will post him up even if I shot him at long range, out the truck window, on a private ranch with 5 spotters(Canyon you are comming to spot arent you), in the alpha and will be just as proud or prouder as the next guy.
Thanks

no he gave me a movie!! :( lol not even a cap are shirt had to buy it!!!

As some have eluded to earlier there is more incentive NOT to post big deer photos here or any other forum. I know of 4 bucks taken this year at or above 200 inches that'll never be seen until they get printed somewhere or your view them on the hunters computer. Times they are a changing....

What magazine pays $800 for a story?

If you want to know who does then write up your story if you know how to write and then shop your story around. call all of the mags!! See what you can get for your story but I highly dought anyone is going to pay you to tell us your story of how you walked out on the reservation and shot a buck. Its not a story or its not really a marketable story unless your selling it to the other Indians on the reservation. Now if your someone going out consistantly on public land and killing a big buck where everyone else has equally the same chance then you have a story that is marketable. Just saying. I also have nothing against you personally.

I have had a few stories published. They were not all in hunting mags either. I didnt get paid for all of them and some of them I did. Do you think anyone gets paid to write in any mags? If you dont then your wacked.

Get out and do your own dirty work. sell yourself maybe someone will buy your reservation hunt. Id prolly read it or at least id look at the pictures.

The best part of this whole thread is Ute calling Sw a Pecker. Lmao thats funny

Ute, would you consider him a big pecker or a little one? :7

I just like the word pecker

What magazine pays $800 for a story? It's a legitimate question since it was stated there is one?

Thats the first time I have heard that one used on the internet , made my night.

I to would like to see where I could get 800 bucks for a story. I have been in MC 3 times and just got a few extra copies and a CD. I didnt' ask for anything though. I know eastman's does the complimentary backpack or something, but $800.00?
