B&C Non Typ- Almost impossible?

After seeing Marley's buck on Mossback's site today it really struck me as to how unbelievable freaking hard it is to actually put a mule deer in the All Time Boone & Crockett book (non-typical). It seems like every year there are a few that do but there are some absolute toads in the 220 to 230 gross range that come up well short of the net minimums. What are the actual odds of making it? Making the book is not everything but it does give some perspective on how GIANT a buck must become to make it.

Oh I agree. Pretty sad that I can take a buck that scores 230 and he doesn't make Boone as a typical or a nontypical. My other typical buck missed it by a 1/4 inch.

I know what you are saying. A 230 net buck is enormous. I guess that's why they call it a record book. In my opinion, a 200 inch buck is a slug. With all the hype we hear of bug bucks, as you said, not too many make the book. Maybe you should start a new post and ask people to post pics of Booners. That would be a good thread.

I think net scores are bs. It saying your huge buck isn't good enough.

I agree on net scores and fish and all that crap but on the flip side I am just saying a net non-typical head worthy of the minimum 230" is incredibly rare and there are many a giant that falls short of this score. My goal is to shoot a 200" buck, non typ or typical I don't care.

If u hunt in the right area with right genes older age class bucks and poaching is limted u can kill b&c deer. I know of 3 just in my area taken this year that will book. But 2 of them are in a story so I cant post pics.:)

I am okay with the net score system for typicals but to me a non-typical should be all about total inches of antler. JMHO

I've seen some flat out huge bucks in my life, but to date, I've only seen one that had a chance of going book NT. That amount of bone is just incredible. Thats why I am still amazed that Guy Eastman took two book NT's in one year. Private or not, its amazing.

I was thinking about Eastman as well. Pretty damn incredible for 2 in one year. He burned a lot of "lucky" all at one time!

LOL...burned alot of some other stuff too I suspect!!! An incredible feat.

The B&C has been around so long that it is dang hard to get ANY record size animal in those books. Had a Black Bear miss it by 1/4" my skull measured 20 12/16" The pelt doesn't even count!! We named him Yao after Yao Ming because he measured 7'2", by US standards, not Canadian.

But so it goes for B&C.
