Pope and Young....what to do?

November 3rd is the 60 day drying mark for my mule deer archery buck and I just wanted to know all you score nuts' thoughts. As you know, P&Y is 145 for typ and 170 for non-typ. I have him at 182 4/8 gross. After deductions he will be right around 169 6/8 net typical. Non-typical he should net close to 177 6/8. That is assuming that I only get to add letter E from Colomn 4 back, right? The differences still deduct even on a non-typical, correct?

My question is what should I enter him as typical(169) or non-typical(177+) and why or why not?

Well that all depends on which category you want him registered in the "books". My feeling is that deductions suck! Take the biggest score possible. If he is a non-typical buck, then he is a non-typical buck. Post up a pick if possible and that might help us a little more.

After looking at the pics - I would say this buck is more typical than non-typical. But like you said in that thread, take the gross score - that's a 182 buck! 177 is close enough. Either way, 169 is great score for a typical and will book P&Y. Nice problem to have!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-10 AT 02:06PM (MST)[p]How many total inches of abnormal points does the buck have? If it has less than 12.5" of abnormal points, it MUST be measured as a typical.

It will have to go as a typical. Not enough non typical points to go nontypical. Awesome buck!

Looks like he just has 4 inches of extras and is the reason why he is 8 inches bigger NT vs. Typ. I'd say go with the Typical if you have a choice.
