So are they saying it beats the Burris buck?

They never mention a score.

Also, seems strange that it is leased out as beating the world record, but we've never heard of it- or at least I haven't.

Also, did anyone catch that the buck had 15" bases? Rembember the 15" bases thread? Maybe this is the buck?

This whole story smells a bit funny to me. He says this buck has 15" bases, look at how far his hands wrap around that rack. It may have 8" bases, 10" at most, but no where near 15" bases as stated. Inferring that this rack is worth one and a half million dollars also hurts the credibility of the story and then lets add the fact the guy writing the story never even saw the deer because it was leased out making them a fortune. A world record mule deer that none of us has heard about? I'm more than a little bit skeptical of this story.
 
I bet it has 15" bases. If you wrap the tape measure around the outside of the bases over the skull plate to the other side then it would reach 15";-)

It beats the old record set two years ago by 2 and 1/8 inches. The number two buck harvested two years ago was taken by Dale Brady (sp) and Mossback on the Henry Mountains in Utah.

As far as the story goes, the reporter was talking to the hunters wife. I don't about your wives, but mine would have know idea about the size of the bases or many of the other details about a buck I shot. It also sounds like the reporter should have done some investigating before writing the story. Amateur writer and amateur deer hunter to boot. He hasn't been hunted deer for almost two decades! Sounds like he lost touch or never new much about them.

Nowhere near 15" bases and that stupid little crab claw, I would've passed him up, let him grow a few more years...

The Buck is cool but where in the heck did that guy get his journalism degree from? Too many mistakes to be published in any paper. The article is written at about the level of 8th grade writing.
 
That buck was taken by Max Johnson. Max's son, Keele, who was 17 years old when the buck was taken currently sits on the State Wilflife Board.

No way on earth that has 15 inch bases.
