Idaho 56/57

I am heading to Idaho here in a few days for my muzzy hunt. Does anyone have any experience or advice on these areas. Both are new to me so any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

We have two of these tags also..been in 56 a ton. Its one of the saddest sights you will ever see. This unit could have rivaled the Henry's when it was in its prime, now there isn't anything. So much deer country and so much prime habitat but no bucks. The general season hunt has really stired them up, we did kill one nice buck on the general hunt, but didn't see much else harvested. Been there 3 days on this hunt, and turned up one small three point. Might focus more on 57, thats where we are going to start looking.

Thanks for the info...good luck to you. Have you seen any rut activity? Looks like some cooler weather is coming so that may help.

Thanks again!

Maybe I should hunt out of one of those smart cars and I won't have to worry about wasting gas! Hopefully there are still a few decent ones I can at least chase around the mountain.

More like two of the west's former best. I could post pictures of bucks taken out of these two units in the 80's and 90's that would flat blow your mind. Its Idaho's version of the Henry's or The Strip...increditable deer used to roam these two.

The deer are no longer behind every bush......but these guys are simply wrong.

I live here. We have WAY too many lions and coyotes, which has damaged the population. HOWEVER, if one hunts, there are deer (and good ones) to be found. Actually, it seems impossible NOT to see deer...no longer 250/day but always 50 to 75 and that includes 12 to 15 bucks. Only one or two of those bucks would tempt me to shoot; that is one or two tempting deer during 4 or 5 days....but I'd see at least 15 4x4 in that time frame.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Here is a sample of what used to come off that mountain range in it prime...sheds picked up from the 80's

15x16 scores in the mid 280's

Let's see some of the other pics from deer in the area you say you got! Would love to see some big bucks from there!!!

I have to agree with oneshot. Especially 56 is a sad sight. I counted no less than 130 deer in one day last week, and only 1 buck. A good 3 x 4. Not even a 2 point and these were not scattered groups, they were all in one canyon, most of them in my sight. Lots of country with little to no deer sign.

Grant, I know you can find the bucks but these 2 areas are pretty tough.

I went to 57 one day and saw more people than I did the other 5 days hunting in 56. Did finally tag a 5 point on the 13th. Only the third mature buck I turned up in 6 days.

These are what used to roam on 57

This is the best buck we could find on 56 after 13 hard days of hunting...
