Make your deer tag not only a deer tag but a cougar and bear tag also hunter choice. Plus kill more elk...

Utah controls the harvest for lion and bear using the Limited Entry system. I don't ever see this happening. Idaho might be able to do this due to the remote wilderness and the number of bears/lions. If they was able to approve this you would have a lot of unhappy houndsman.

Rather have deer, nobody will be happy. What would you rather have cats, dogs and bears or deer?

I think utah also sells a general season lion tag. It works different than the LE tags because the season is much shorter. Basically they sell the tags, you have to report in when you get a lion, once the quota is met they shut the hunt down. Oh and you have to call each morning before you go out to make sure the season didn't close. Not calling a downed animal in carries a pretty hefty fine, so they don't have many problems with no reports.

They could switch to that system with the deer/bear & lion tags. Make people call in when they shoot a lion or bear instead of a deer.

Or have them check in the hide at the nearest F&G office, no certified tag on the hide, no getting taxidermist work done. That is how it works in AK for bears and wolves.

Utah could still do the LE tags as well. I mean honestly, how often do you see a bear, or a lion while hunting? I have seen exactly 4 bears and 1 lion. Could have shot 3 of the bears and the lion. Oh yeah but the 3 bears I could have shot were coming down to feed on a dead cow that was in the area we were hunting. So I could have really only shot 1 bear.

I think that is a good suggestion, really people would not kill that many bears and lions on their deer tag.

Thanks, how many people want a bear or a cat every year? I think let the hunters choose, i know it would help.

Not saying it wouldn't work. Go read the lion/bear annual reports and the management plan and tell us how you would impliment it.

Well it's really a no brainer look where all the management plans have got us today. As for how to implement the plan? It's like anything else with government, what is the money maker, the lions, tigers and bears or the Mule Deer? We have a winner the mule deer. How much money will they have if we lose our deer? As for anything else charge a little more for a deer/predator (Bear or Lion) combo tag and those that chose to pay a little more can kill either. Bingo it's a money maker too. Add wolf's later also. Also chose where in Utah we want deer and elk every range cannot maintain a healthy population of both species and co insist with each other, pick and chose. Manage each area for one particular species if needed.
