It's been an extremely tough hunt this week. This was my last tag for the year which I never look forward to being done. This was a 2nd choice tag for me so my expectations weren't real high especially where I didn't have any time to scout this area this year. Today was the last day that I could get out because of kids' stuff tomorrow. The area that I wanted to go check out has 2 tall peaks with a saddle in the middle that you can hike through to get to a huge basin where you can overlook alot of country. When I got there there was already a truck parked there which is no big deal because alot of people park there, hike up through the saddle and then you can fan out from there to get away from each other. This basin is probably 4 square miles and DEEP. I saw 2 guys walking up to the right side of the basin so I thought I would skirt around the left peak and give them space. When I made it to the top I ran right into the other 2 guys. One of them just starts yelling at me, "What the hell are you doing, didn't you see my truck." I said yes that's why I came way west to stay out of your way. He continues to yell at me about how I shouldn't be there, that it's common courtesy to not hunt where others are. To avoid arguement I said, "where do you want to go?" He said, " I am going left." So I said, "have at it bud." I go to the right, right where he just came from and didn't walk 30 yards from where he was yelling at me and notice a nice buck right out in the open at the bottom of the basin. So I practically run down this little shoot to try to get to him before he rounds the top of the hill. When I get 575 yards from him, I can't go any further without losing sight of him because of the way the hill rounds off. I dial my scope for 575, get a perfect rest off my pack and touched one off. Instantly the buck disappears but I heard a whop. I pick up my gear and headed in that direction to pick up blood. Not a freaking drop! We had just gotten 1 inch of fresh snow that night so I started following his tracks. After about a mile of following tracks and still no sign of blood I figured that I had a clean miss, but there was still that whop sound in the back of my mind. So I decide to look into one last basin before I head back and as I round the top of the hill, the buck jumps out of his bed and starts running up the other side. I ranged the top of the saddle that he was heading to at 350 yards, threw my pack down, got a good solid rest and just waited for him to hit the saddle. When he got to the saddle I touched one off and he dropped instantly. When I got up to him I realized that my first shot had blown his antler off right where his g4 splits off of his main beam. Not the biggest buck in the world but a fun hunt none the less. The pack job alone was miserable. I shot him at about 8:30 AM and finally got everything back to my truck at about 4 PM. Sorry about the picture quality. I only had my cell phone.

So these JOKERS wasn't the type to pay a favor back?

God is Great!
Life is Good!
And People are Crazy!
I love not acting my age,
Damn I love my NASCAR race,
And Hell yes I love my Truck!

Never found the antler but I also wasn't looking for it as I didn't know that I had shot it off and really didn't have the energy to go back to look for it. Gives him character right?

If by character you mean a constant visual reminder that you shot his horn off....then yes, he has lots and lots of character.
