I like muleys with some character and this guy definately has that. Been a damn hard season, with this being only the 3rd legal buck I've seen in almost 2 1/2 months of hunting. Burped him in yesterday morning. I figured 15 yards from me was close enough. Was a pretty heavy bugger. Was close to 3 kms from the truck and I had to pack him out in 2 trips. He should make for a sweet Euro. With some meat finally in the freezer, we'll see if we can get my boy on a monster before the end of the season.

Here are a few pics of my buck with a shed off a buck I called the Double Mainbeam buck. MattB thinks maybe my buck is the double mainbeam buck regressed from old age. I'm thinkin he's right. The 4 point mainframe structure is almost identical just smaller now. They both have the same bladed eyeguards. The second mainbeam on the shed comes off the base the same as the weird beam on the dead buck. The only thing different is the side of the weirdness has switched. I've seen nontypical points switch from side to side on other bucks that I've watched over the years so there is nothing unusual about that. There is nothing wrong with the skull to indicate an injury. The front teeth are in real bad shape with several missing and others broken. IMO Just genetics and old age playing the role here. I last saw the double mainbeam buck the winter of 05. That would put him at 10 or 11 now.

SneakAttack,
According to google, 3 kms = 1.864 miles. So how many miles did I do by the time I was finished? 1.864 miles in, 1.864 miles back with the first pack, then 1.864 miles back in and 1.864 miles back to the truck with the last pack. Kinda feels like Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader. :) As for burping, it is exactly what it sounds like. I burp by swallowing air to sound like a buck grunt. Works way better and any grunt tube.

>Cool! I think it might be
>the same one? Why was
>the season so hard?

I've never seen conditions like this in my entire life. The deer have been pretty much noctural hiding out in the thick $hit since early July. I'm thinking it's a combination of heavy pressure from our large wolf populations and prime feed conditions. We have had an abundance of both moisture and sunshine which means amazing plant growth. The deer don't need to expose themselves to danger by feeding in openings. They can feed in the safety of the thick timber.

I love the antler color you get up there!
