Buck to doe ratio and how many units we need gets to be quite tiring with the decline of our deer herd when we are missing the obvious.
I like Don Peays quote: "The SFW emphasis at the Baord is to fix the deer herd, until that is done, neither option really matters. As byron Bateman said, it is simply re-arranging the chairs on the deck of teh Titanic".
What we should be concentrating on is good counts from the DWR, not a flawed model that is riduculous and shown to be so.
When a herd is say 10% below objective increase the cougar and bear permits, 20% open the area up to cougar and/or bear hunting to anyone who wants a license. Encourage coyote hunting with a permit to that person who can show proof of the most coyote kills. Or some other means of reward.
What I am getting at is buck to doe ratio is not going to mean much if the doe's keep depleting.
All that I can say is that the DWR's model of wildlife counts is not working. Any sportsmen that has an eye and gets in the mountains much can see that.
