Just took a ride up on the Mountain this evening!
Had about 2 hours of Prime Time before it got dark!
Seen a whoppin 30 head of Deer!
Seen 2 Bucks!
1 Spike trying to breed his Mother!
And one 2 point all by himself!
Looks as if the Peak Rut might be another week or so away from what I seen?
I glassed the whole area where there should be at least 200-300 head of Deer but to no avail!
28 Does & Fawns & 2 Pisscutters!
I'll be looking at different areas of the NE Region for the next couple of months!
If they(Decent Bucks!) don't show during the Rut I'd say they ain't there to show up!
I know there's more in the area than what I seen tonight but still, very sad!

From what I seen tonight, all I can say is DAMN I'm excited for the 2011 Hunt!

I hear ya man. I gone the last probably 5 weekends hit and miss, with all the hunts/ scouting/ Horse riding....etc. Before the time changed I was making a few runs to the mountains per week during the evening. Plus I have spent quite a bit of time in some pretty good deer areas while at work. I have had pretty much the same experience your talking about. In every place I have gone. Sad sad With all the stompin around for 5 days in a row my brother and I did muzzy elk huntin I seen a handful of does and fawns and one two point. "this one wasn't trying to hump his mom though" LOL . We seen more freeking bull moose than we did buck deer. No shizz either 4 bull moose, Infact we even seen more mountain goats than deer. What a shame....
But its okay, more than likely they are going to cut 7,000 tags and it will make the deer problem go away -YANK, YANK. If someone trys to tell me Utah is at it max deer capacity for the habitat we have. I am going to have to break their face before I can answer. Sad thing is I think its going to get alot worse before it gets any better.

Right on Sloper!

Really Sad!

Wonder if the DWR will 'pad' the counts this year?

Been down low in the vallys of the NE unit and the bucks are ruttin hard but few and far between. hope we get this fixed I dont care if I hunt Utah 2 of 3 years to help the situation.

Going out and observing the deer. "If you can find them" makes me wonder how many does are going without even breeding theres quite a few little handfulls of straight does and fawns with no bucks. My opinion is its not because the rut aint in swing its simply because there are no bucks. I wish they were like rabbits or something and breed year round.

I spent the ENTIRE day in the Central region....2 bucks, 8 does! The first buck was running 4 doe, he wasn't even a legal spike. The second was a tiny 3x4 that wasn't above his ears! SAD!!!! I archery hunt the NE region. I only saw one buck opening morning.
Traditional only >>>------->

I was checked by the dwr on my hunt we had an awsome hunt and killed 5 bucks and saw close to twenty in the two days that we hunted 66.6% of the season. But that being said when i talked to the dwr guy he said in the winter of 2007-2008 there was 95% fawn loss on the ss and 75% yeraling loss plus areound 35-40% adult loss ok lets see here after a winter like that should they not have shut the whold damn thing down??? I voiced option 2 so if there is a winter like that we can adjust and fix the problem any one who says micro managing does not work come up with a fix for those kinds of numbers and deer loss.

I went hunting here in northern Utah (general tag area) today. Saw about 18 deer. Two small 4-points and two 3-points. In total, there were three groups of deer, each group had atleast one buck.

I would have like to have seen more deer, but the warm, windy weather did have them lounging most of the day. 5 bucks out of 18 deer isn't too bad I guess.

I have an idea, let's make the NE area the only place in the state that's open for deer and also any legal bull elk.....oh, wait a second....hmmmmm
