I FEAR PETA LESS

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-10 AT 04:08PM (MST)[p]With all the changes that have been made over the last few decades then I fear PETA less. When is the last time PETA got their way in Utah? I can think of numerous times where proposals have been made out of pure non-sense which reduced hunting. Hunters quit hunting because of all the regulations and fewer tags.

I fear PETA less because they aren't the one's who are destroying the hunting that we love. It's bandaid proposals jammed through the system.

I would like to know how many young hunters quit hunting because of less tags, OR quit hunting because when they go they see nothing with horns.
The youth in our party were ready to go home at noon because they were seeing no horns on deer.
Again, not the total solution, just one aspect.

but yet your in favor of cutting tags even more which hasn't helped so far.

Do you know what the definition of stupidity is? Trying the same thing over and over expecting different results.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-10 AT 04:29PM (MST)[p]Do kids need instant gratification? Maybe they need to be taught that there is more to hunting that just pulling a trigger on a deer.

No that's the definition of insanity (einstein)
And so, are you proposing continuing on as has been for the last several years? Trying the same thing over and over?

Ah, if we learnum to love the huntin they will. even if they reach the age of 18 and never have pulled the trigger.

I think LOTS of kids loss interest in hunting because there are far fewer animals in the field. I know when I was a kid, none of our dads had binoculars, yet we'd go hunting, drive the roads, go for walks and I remember seeing lots of deer.
Now, I take my kid hunting and the vast mojority of the deer I see is through my binoculars. Every now and then we see a few deer close enough that he can see them with his naked eye, but not like when I was a kid. Little things like that can either excite a kid about hunting, or not.
If a kid has to try and find a deer in binoculars or a spotting scope everytime one is spotted, it's not as fun for them.

Now I will say however, I don't think it'll ever be like it once was. Technology, knowledge, etc. has changed the game so much. What does it take to get a kid hooked on hunting? For my son, it might be the poker games with the guys at the end of the day, or the joy of just being in the high mountains. Having a tag might just be the excuse to get out of the house.

I couldn't even hunt until I was 16 and didn't kill a buck until 17 so...... If we teach them to love the hunt.... they probably will.

My kids (all adults) didn't always kill when they went out. Some hunts have been brutal! Yet they all hunt and would have things no other way in their life.

If someone wishes not to hunt because it's too hot or too cold or too early or too hard then SO BE IT. They probably wouldn't be hunters even if they killed a 30" buck their first year.

It really isn't for everybody.... Thank God!
Those of us who really are hunters will always find a way to hunt. I won't be troubled if others decide to stay home.

Respectfully,
Zeke

I don't think its the lack of animals, I believe it starts with the parents and there real interests with hunting and the outdoors. There doesn't need to be tags for the younger ones to have just an interest and someone to take them to the hills. I have three grown sons and all hunt yearly in there respective home states. When they were growing up I tried to give them the opportunities that I had when I grew up to hunt. They did and they still hunt. My neighbor has three sons and two of them have shown me interest on going with me. I have offered to take them along hunting but the dad said he didn't have time. I also believe it is from where they live. Country boys have more chances available because of where they live and the avaibility to the outdoors. City kids have to do more just to go.
