LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-10 AT 10:31AM (MST)[p]The reason I wanted to do this contest was to show how easy it can be to misjudge a buck. Now don't feel bad because we didn't think this buck was as big as it ended up being either. We thought he would gross in the mid 180s when I was hunting him during the archery season. Once my brother was able to connect with his muzzleloader we realized his body was bigger than any of us thought.

And the winner is: Gator

Gator PM sent.

That buck looks completely different on the ground!

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

NV4Life , thanks for putting up the contest it was fun.

What a great looking buck too.

I sent you a pm. I believe that I have photos of that buck in 2008. Let me know if you want to see them.

This one threw off some people who are good at field juding. He had angles where he looked big and others where he looked small. I chased him all archery season with some really close calls but couldn't seal the deal. My brother showed me why man invented the "firearm" when his muzzleloader season started.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-10 AT 01:21PM (MST)[p]Well - I didn't enter the contest but to be fair you do have to admit that the original pics are quite a bit different from the pics you have posted here! They are very poor quality of the buck in the velvet and were probably taken a month to two prior to the harvest (feel free to give us the dates of the pic and the harvest). I don't think he grew a lot between the pics but I can see how that might have influenced some guesses if both pics had been put up. The videos are pretty clear however - awesome footage.

Since I didn't enter the contest I am not griping, just can see how some people could easily become confused. At any rate he is an awesome buck and it looks like you guys certainly earned him! Congrats on a great trophy and a fun contest.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-10 AT 02:10PM (MST)[p]I had a feeling someone was going to say that.

The pics were screen caps off the longer video. This is why I told people to look at the videos not just the pics. The buck was harvested on 9-13 (dates on the score sheet), and the long video was taken 2 weeks before that, and the two shorter ones were 3-4 weeks before. If he grew between the time of the long video and when he rubbed it was minimal, and he rubbed his velvet 2 days before we killed him.

The reason I didn't post the kill photos in the original post was because its a lot easier to see how big the buck is when you have something to scale him too, like a person. The contest was to judge the buck as you would if you found him in the hills.

Thanks, and I'm happy my brother was able to connect on him.

Looks much better on the ground. I always tend to underestimate fairly clean typicals. I guess it is better to underestimate than over.

I didn't enter the contest either!

Nice job there GATOR!

Nice Buck!

WOW!! I way underestimated that buck!

He has a MASSIVE body I think that's what threw most of us (or maybe I just don't like admitting I'm wrong HAHA!).

What a great buck! Mind if I ask what Area?
