UT extended future?

so have they said anything about what is going to happen to the extended? if they are still going to have one? or do without? and how long would the archery season be with all of these new changes?

I hope that they keep it. But I think they should do two separate hunts on it for archery. One at the same time as the rest of the state and the other in November like 1-20. That way more people could hunt it, and less people at a time, but the hunt would end before the bucks where totally in the rut ant the snow traps them down low. It will be on a unit basis the same as the rest of the state so that is what I want to see done. Also the Ogden should do the same thing.

im not sure quite what you mean. the rut is pretty much the last 3 weeks of nov. so if you dont want anyone to hunt the rut than they shouldnt hunt in nov at all. i think they should have an extended hunt for archery in other regions besides the wasatch. cause than it would spread the people out more.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-10 AT 08:23PM (MST)[p]Dillion coming from a bow hunter your comments catch me off guard every time I read them. They all lead me to believe you've been sniffing way to many bike seats when you were a kid.

I know long338mag was dropped on his head when he was a baby.

Screw SFW and their BS worthless projects and once in a life time 100% success shoots! This state deserves better!!!

SWTHIGHMASTER, I just think its funny, hunt the south as a statewide archer and then run home and hunt rutting muleys on snow covered basins, hell we might just as well move the muzz back in the rut while were at it. Kill it as i stated earlier, And you and hornkiller know nothing about me !!!!

I dont know one person that hunts your coveted southern unit!! why would anyone from the slc area want to go hunt the monroe or any other gay area in southern Utah when you got the front which is the shizz in their own back yard! You southern morons need to get over your selves and your thinking northern guys are the ones killing all your southern bucks. Look in the mirror for excuses.

Are you compensating for something? Cause reading your screen name you seem to have issues with something. Doesn't seem like you are an archery fan anyway.

SW and a lot of the other guys that I know who hunt the front regurlarly shoot bucks in the early season. I believe that the last couple of bucks SW shot were within the first week or so the season. They scout hard and shoot things when they are available.

There are some great bucks shot on the front during the rut but there are lots killed before then too.

Wrong again im an avid bowhunter spent 19 days in the field this year.I also hunt muzzy and rifle ,Just sick of archery only chaps moaning about their lost oppertunity when we all half to sacrifice to make this work .As for me and my 338 ultra we arent compensating for anything but bullet drop at 1000 yds!

Longshooter...how many days in the field you have means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! I had over 19 days in the field in July just scouting...who cares?? Just me :)

I'm another northern bowhunter who's never had a southern tag. You can get mad and write bad crap back to me if it makes ya feel better but you're doing nothing more than whining about chit that isn't true...

19 DAYS ON THE BOW HUNT ONLY , MY CAMS GO OUT IN MAY AND GET CHECKED EVERY 48 SO I SPEND A FAIR BIT IN THE FIELD ALSO , YOU ARE 2 RARE CASES IMO

I'm also a northerner that has never ventured south...I actually can't think of a single person I know personally that lives up north and bowhunts down south.

The extended season on the Wasatch is fine, but the early season is better.

Threads like this illustrate very clearly how we our more damaging to ourselves than PETA and company could ever be. It never ceases to amaze me how much venom we sportsmen are eager and willing to spew back and forth at each other. Sad really.

So why do all the archers feel the need to save the STATEWIDE ARCHERY if everyone stays in their own region to bow hunt, thats right they dont.

I dont really see the need to save the statewide archery. Sure its nice for guys who choose to hunt other regions, but really how many guys have the time or money to scout and hunt several different regions in the state? I personally have never hunted the Southern region either. I sometimes go with my dad to Ephraim for one week, but my heart is up on the Wasatch. I hunt it starting in May with my camera, and stay at it clear through Jan. I dont stop going up when the hunts end. I'm just as happy to film a buck as to kill him.

Longshooter just curious if you have ever even hunted the wasatch front?, and from your experience what you might know about it?.

ok guys enough arguing on here. how about someone answer my question. is there going to be a wasatch extended in 2012 when all the changes happen? i could care less about the saving the statwide. im a wasatch guy through and through. i hunt it just like zrider from may to jan. i love getting pictures just as much as i do killing a deer on the front. someone answer my question please.

Unless the hunters can take out enough deer during a general archery season on the Front, I'm sure the extended will stay. The reason for the extended hunt is to keep that herd at objective first and foremost. Opportunity is second.
I do believe you will have to draw the unit in order to hunt it during the general season.
I personally do not hunt the WF, but have spent time hiking and taking photos of deer. I think its a really cool opportunity and love the fact that one of the best hunting areas is in my backyard. I wish more of it was open to other weapons.

338,

I dont know where you get your info. I really dont know ANY bow hunters who travel to Southern Utah to hunt. I shoot with a local archery league and to the best of my knowlege none of them travel down to shoot YOUR deer. Heck I've never hunted down there in my life.

My family does have a farm down in Mt Pleasant and I've had some good times down there hunting. I now live in the Basin and its a long drive to get back to the farm. I scout and hunt where I live. I did like the option of the Statewide archery to let me head down there on occasion to hunt though.

Seems like you have some kind of chip on your shoulder.

I will admit I have been seeing/talking with, a few less people from the SLC area on the Zion and Panguitch Lake the past few years. Most of the non-local people who have been hunting archery down there are from Nevada and Arizona. Which may be because they live closer to there. A lot of the Nevada archers have cabins on Cedar Mountain and they being a few buddies to hunt the week with them. We do get a nice group of Californians also, but they are usually more for the rifle hunt.

The only reason I'm sad to see the statewide tags go is because it's likely gonna be tougher to draw a tag in the specific unit I hunt.

95% of the bowhunters I know personally didn't utilize the "statewide" feature of their tags anyway, myself included like I said.

To our OP, I have no idea at this point how the Wasatch Front and the extended hunt will be treated. I don't think anyone does!
