I was in a coyote calling contest this last weekend. On our first set we were overlooking a pretty good sized valley. A few minutes after we started calling we saw a group of three coyotes running out across a flat. They could care less that we were calling and were chasing a group of deer. It was way too far for a shot.
A couple of stands later we had one coyote comming in at about 400 yards. He stopped and started looking to his left. a group of deer about 200 yards past him went nuts with 2 more coyotes chasing that herd. I threw a few hail marys at them and sent them in the other direction.
Two different groups of coyotes chasing deer in the same morning. Not a good thing.
I've set out quite a few snares the last few days, witn no luck so far. I'm new to snaring so it might take a bit to figure it out but I hope I can take care of a couple.
