Had a friend tell me that if a deer is a spike the next year it will be a three point and from then on out it will stay a three point but just get bigger and heavier. Is this true?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-05-10 AT 10:40PM (MST)[p]If its a spike buck in utah it never makes it to grow into a three point. It will more than likely be shot the first ten minutes of the opener.

Are most/half the mature bucks you see 3 points? No. We would have a lot more management bucks if that were the case.

No, definitely not true. It is impossible to make a specific statement like that about antler growth in general. That might be true in a small area or a specific herd of deer that are genetically similiar, but it does not apply to all deer.

applys well for book cliffs last 6 years. have seen 3 points in same areas every winter just heaver & wider. have seen some amzing 3 points .alot spikes . very few 2 -4 points.go figure why!!!!!!!!

Have you seen some of the book cliffs 22" wide or so 2 points? There's quite a few actually..

I think he meant to say that forkys turn into 4x4s or better and spikes stay 3x3s? Am I right? Good question.
