I heard that the Fish and Game are planning to eraticate approximatly seventy "nuisance" deer near Santaquin and Woodland Hills because of the high amount of vehicle vs deer traffic accident reports. This act is suppose to happen very soon.
Two large deer herds, one that winters North of Santaquin on SR 198 between Santaquin and Spring Lake are frequently being struck by cars. Another heard near Woodland Hills are also causing too many traffic accidents and property damage and both are considered a "nusiance". Bucks, does and fawns, they all will be gone.
A few years ago, the fish and game did the exact same thing with the herd of elk that wintered between Santaquin and Spring Lake. The Elk were really fun to watch through the winter, now they are all gone.
Is there no other way to avoid this drastic action? What about a high fence with a game crossing like near Park City? What about bigger, brighter flashing lights and steet signs? Lower speed limit signs?
I am really frustrated and dissapointed with this decision and apparently the fish and game's only way to resolve the problem. There needs to be a better way to handle it.I thought the State of Utah wanted to increase the deer numbers? this is a very sad matter.
To the fish and game that may read this, Please, as a sportsman and wildlife enthusiast, please re-consider this option.
Why waste all these animals? All those in favor of looking for a different solution, say "I" and let your voice be heard, hopefully the fish and game will listen..
