LAST EDITED ON Oct-02-03 AT 03:47PM (MST)[p]Talked with a friend who got back last week from a Archery hunt with his son (game warden) and another game cop they were hunting in Idaho.
Took up archery so he could hunt with his son just two months ago and said he had a ball.
Missed a big 6x6, but brought home the "Whiteoak" branch. He made up for it later in the hunt as he finally nailed a spike Bull at about 18 yards. Needless to say, neither of the other two got any elk and he was in seventh heaven over that as they have been hunting for some time with archery.
The 6x6 was probably somewhere around 45 yards but not sure as had no range finder to check distance.
Don't know if they took pictures and it is too late for me to find out as he lives about hour and ahalf from here.

P.S. He just turned 60 in July, no spring chicken.

Thats cool always like to hear family successes like that. I have had my brother there with me last 2 years for all three of my elk. Good memories.

A friend of my dad's did about the same thing two years ago. He was the county sheriff, about 55 and had never bow hunted elk before. He is a pretty good elk hunter and has taken a fair share of bulls during rifle season but had never even shot a bow until that summer.

He got an invite from his good friend, another cop, and they packed in a camp and had a ball. Neither of them had been in the mountains much during the rut so they were both pretty new to the whole "fall experience". They saw a ton of elk and ended up killing two bulls. My dads friend shot a 355 6pt and his buddy killed 300ish 6pt. Talk about beginers luck! Needless to say I think he's hooked for life...
