Colorado Draw Strategy

I am really excited to hunt mule deer for the first time in Colorado in 2011 and I cannot decide what hunt to choose (weapon or season). Rifle, muzz, or bow are all options. I plan on hunting Colorado every 3 years (2pts). My passion and experience has been hunting up high in WY and Idaho in Sept-Oct. I love hunting the high country but the opportunity to hunt late in November is also tempting.

Right now I'd say I'm leaning towards a muzzy hunt in unit 74 or 43.

For those that have been down this road I'd appreciate any advise or suggestions on what season/hunt would hold the best potential at taking a 175+ buck. Thanks!

74 got hammered pretty good last year by the early and long winter. Will take a few years to come back. Not sure about how the deer herd in 43, but it certainly is some beautiful country. Almost did a high country rifle hunt there, but opted for the Sangres instead. That would be a third option, I hear there are still come good deer there and muzzy is not that hard to draw.

That highcountry in 74 could be fun. Super rugged and I don't think there are huge numbers of deer, but the exercise would be great. I like that place.

Yep, 74 is beautiful as well as 75 but the deer numbers are down from the years before. There will still be a few good bucks up high in Sept. though. 43 deer numbers are way down as well, but there is a big, beautiful wilderness area, it will still produce a few good bucks in Sept.

Thanks for the input!

I guess I'm not looking for specific info on 43 or 74 but whether I should go with a muzzy/archery hunt in Sept or a 3rd/4th season hunt?

Brian (and others)...I noticed from your Hunt Adventure Challenge you chose to hunt Colorado late while you obviously enjoy getting up in the high country in other states. Any specific reason besides prolonging the hunting season?
